Argh! I am at the mercy of the mail carrier!

So I do Netflix. I've done Netflix for like 3 years now. I never ever ever had a problem with it when I lived in Columbus. Not a single one. I have lived here for three months and I've already had one reportable missing movie. It never arrived, and they sent me a new one. No problem! That was a month ago.

I returned two movies at the same time over the weekend and two movies were shipped to me on the 21st. That was three days ago. No movies. The distribution center is in Worcester (an hour from here) and I usually get the movies the next day. Never more than a day. Except that time that the movie never came.

It's been three days and I have not received these movies. I'm afraid to report them to Netflix because I already reported one missing movie last month, and now two movies? They're totally going to cancel my membership or whatever. And that totally makes me mad because I'm really good about returning movies and have been a very faithful customer.

I called the USPS and lodged a complaint about missing mail. Someone is supposed to call me back by Monday. But what can they say, really? It's not like they're going to 'find' my movies. And it's not like my lodging a complaint is going to appease Netflix. Maybe they'll come tomorrow and it will be a mysterious non-issue. I hope.

We used to get our Netflix movies from the Worcester distribution area, and movies always showed up the NEXT day. Then they opened a spot in Manchester, NH... five minutes EAST of us... and the movies take 3 or 4 days to get here.

It's not Netflix, it's the mail carrier. Continue to complain. Call again and again. Let them start to recognize your voice. I've replaced a mail carrier in Connecticut, and one here in New Hamster. If they can't deliver the mail right, they shouldn't be doing it at all.

Stinky mail carriers get replaced, or moved to another route, or something. Don't put up with it.

And don't wory about Netflix cancelling your membership... I've NEVER heard of them doing that. Like, ever.

Yes, I think I definitely need to make a nuisance of myself with the post office. Because if I'm missing several movies, I wonder how much other mail I'm missing that I don't even know about.

ARGH!!

I think that given that you have been paying for membership for three years, even if you were some kind of dvd-stealing-smurf, you've still given them enough money to recoup the cost of 3 dvds. Especially if you STAY a member, I think its unlikely they would penalize you.

You think? I have no experience with this sort of thing. Because I pride myself on always being on the up and up! :)

Well, don't feel guilty because you didn't do anything wrong. I am sure that you wouldn't be the first person (Nor the last) who has had Netflix stuff lost in the mail. Considering how many discs they likely send. Not only that, breakage is certainly part of it too. I had a disc I got once that came, quite literally, in TWO pieces.

I had a broken disk once, too. It wasn't in two pieces, but it was cracked halfway through.

I had a hard time when I first got Netflix, but they never had any problems. You can use the website to report missing movies, and they send them out. However, if you've already done that, go ahead and call. If nothing else, you're doing them a favor by reporting the problem, so they have an opportunity to fix it if it's on their end.

BTW, I wanted to do that last meme with the picture, but I was afraid that other people wouldn't understand and get mad for what I used as your word. 'Cause your my B, B. (That's a hint, if you know what I mean.)

Well, I haven't reported them missing yet... I'm giving them through Monday to mysteriously show up. I know you can report them missing on the web (I had to do it once last month), I'm more concerned that they will think I'm shady for not only reporting TWO movies at once, but only a month after reporting the last one.

Le sigh. Freaking post office.

After a while, Netflix will ask for a USPS report number whenever you report a missing movie. And then, they're fine.

Honest. they won't cancel on you.

I won an auction on e-bay once, contacted the seller within minutes of the end of the auction, got a money order that same day, stuck it in an envelope....

...and about a week later, the people contacted me and asked where the payment was. I called the post office, but they said it would take 60 days to track the thing and it would cost me some ungodly amount.

So I told the seller what had most likely happened--the USPS had lost the envelope. They really, really didn't believe me, and we agreed not to bother with a second try.

A month later, a get an email. "Your money order arrived. Postmark and date on check were as you said. We're shipping the merchandise today. Sorry!"

An entire month. God only KNOWS where the thing was.

It happens. Everyone knows it. NetFlix isn't going to freak out. :)

Dude, that's crazy! I get so paranoid with things like money orders because you can't stop payment on them or whatever. I hate the postal service. I love getting mail, though!

I really hope they don't freak out. If I don't get the movies by Monday I'm going to have to report them both missing. :(

I have had Netflix since August 2002, and no probs... until about this past April/May... dvds taking over a week to get here, wrong ones, damaged ones... I haven't moved more than 10 miles, but the service has DROPPED. And this was AFTER they raised the rates!

Date: 2004-09-25 04:46 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com
You know, I could deal with them being later (because I used to have to wait several days a couple of years ago, because there weren't many distribution centers)... but they're GONE. And damaged movies are definitely on the increase as the volume of Netflix customers explodes.

I'm just concerned about the missing movies, because it makes me look like a movie thief.

I've had to report three or four disks missing. One time the return envelope came ripped so I had to return two disks in one envelope, like they tell you to do. One of the disks showed up, the other didn't. I tried to fight that one with them, but they still kept it on my record as a lost disk. I think they know that thinks are going to happen and it's only if it becomes excessive that it's a problem. I have a sucktastick post office, too. After three years of complaining they are starting to get better!

Yeah, but what defines 'excessive'? I've now reported three disks in one month's time. To me, that's excessive. I hope I don't make their "Shady Customer" list.

But I suppose it's true that with the amount of membership money I've sent them in 3 years, they'd be able to buy a TON of DVDs.

The only time I had a lost movie was when I put two discs in one, like they tell you to do to 'save on postage'.

But, those were the two that got lost in the mail.

Weird, huh?

I left Netflix at that time due to monetary reasons. I can't wait to get back into it. But that'd be something for next year. We've got HBO & Cinemax OnDemand. :D

OnDemand is an interesting thing. I hate sending money to the cable company, though. I hate television.

YUCK.

I like movies. I don't like getting sucked in to mindless television. However, I am definitely addicted to Law and Order: SVU.
