New Playground
Sep. 28th, 2004 09:55 pmSo I never got around to talking about the really neat thing!
There is this playground near my work and it is a total disgrace. There are a couple of rusty swingsets, some messed up see-saws, and the whole thing is a mess of beach sand that is covered with trash and crab grass. It seriously is the saddest playground I've ever seen. There are hardly ever any kids there, because it's just such a mess. Sometimes there are kids on the basketball court, but whenever I see kids on those junky swings I get so sad for them.
A couple of weeks ago, I called the Mayor's Hotline and complained about the playground and its sorry state of affairs. And yesterday, when I was driving back from a home visit, I saw that there was a backhoe digging up sand, and all of the nasty swingsets had been taken down. And they were starting to install some BRAND NEW playground equipment - modern stuff in nice, bright colors! They couldn't keep working today because of the rain, but I can't wait to see what it looks like when it's all finished!
(And besides, I like to pretend that it's all from my phone call!)

To think that there are tons of kids who don't have that is super sad.
