A Sherlock Holmes in sneakers
Sep. 29th, 2004 11:20 pmI SOLVED THE MYSTERY.
I went down to the door of the house and rang his doorbell. He came out to the porch and I asked him if he had a minute for me to ask him a question. He invited me up; I introduced myself.
I asked if he'd found any of my mail, and he said no. We talked a little bit about the guy that just moved out, and he said that maybe he'd taken my mail (there is drama). I said that I was specifically looking for internet rental movies, and that I'd gotten two yesterday but only one made it up. He asked if it was in a red pouch. YES! I said. He said that there were two movies - one for me and one for him. I said, "I'm pretty sure they were both for me." He said he thought he'd thrown it out, and went to his kitchen trash.
AND THERE WAS MY MOVIE, UNDER THE LAUNDRY DETERGENT!
He didn't have his glasses on, he says. He thought it was addressed to him, he says. But the movie has been retrieved. Case closed.

Date: 2004-09-30 03:37 am (UTC)i would totally choose to do what my mom and I call "benign interpretation" and believe him. because it's just easier to live in that sort of world.

Date: 2004-09-30 04:06 am (UTC)One thing I learned, GAY MEN ARE FULL OF DRAMA, even when they are in their 40s and 50s. Craziness. I live in such a hormonal house.

Date: 2004-09-30 02:51 pm (UTC)This whole statement is where it falls apart for me. Because if He said there were TWO movies, one for him and one for you, it means he KNOWS what they are. Which then doesn't support his "Thrown it out" argument. Well, I thought one was for me, so I promptly trashed it.

Date: 2004-09-30 08:52 pm (UTC)But still - he knows it's a movie, why not open it and see what it is, or return it to netflix? He could sell it for that matter. It does nobody good in the garbage.

Date: 2004-09-30 09:13 pm (UTC)I don't think he had any clue what Netflix was. He just opened it, saw it was something he wasn't interested in, decided it was junk mail, and chucked it. Or so he says.

Date: 2004-09-30 09:18 pm (UTC)He never really gave me the impression that he had any clue what Netflix was. His den area was full of (*gasp!*) VHS tapes.
