Yeah, right, like you're really going to yank me. I have medical and legal rights, and the precedence of conventional wisdom which encourages you no longer to do such things.

I get tonsilitis at least twice a year, myself. I hate it.
You shouldnt have a tonsilectomy, though, not unless you have it many many times per year. I think most docs wont take em out unless you get it like 6 or 12 times a year. They hurt when they get infected, but that's what they're there for...to keep infections up in your throat instead of downstairs in your lungs & guts where they can *really* hurt you.

Prevent it avoiding sugar, as it compromises immune system, drinking lots of water, vitamins, and REST. REST.

I am sorry, though. I know how much it hurts. One of mine is a bit swollen right now and it sucks.

For the last two years in Ohio, I was seeing an ENT specialist and an ENT surgeon because I have a history of chronic bacterial (non-strep) tonsillitis and have had tonsil abcesses on two different occasions. Both times that I had abcesses, my tonsil(s) got so swollen that I was unable to swallow and breathing became difficult, so I had to go to the ER for intravenous antibiotics and steroids. No fun.

After it happened again (the abcess thing) last winter, I was told to run, not walk, to the ENT surgeon. I lollygagged, and then when I saw him again for another round of tonsillitis he all but tied me to a table and took them out that day. I ended up having to postpone the surgery because I was moving in a month and couldn't miss two weeks of work.

So yeah, I'm /really/ nervous to have another abcess. Once you have one, the chance of getting another is very high. (And I've had two.) And right now I can't afford an ER trip (no insurance).

I've had the abscesses once, it was the worst illness I have ever had, the most painful!!! My tonsils were both swollen, they were TOUCHING. So nasty. I havent had it that bad since. If you get that often, hell. Do whatever it effing takes to avoid it!!

Yeah. I am SO not one of those people that gets a lot of medical attention, and I've never had any kind of surgical procedure except for wisdom tooth removal, so this is definitely bad. If it wasn't, I soooo wouldn't be considering it.

(Hence why I didn't get them out in 2001 when I was told to, or this year.)
