Watching all of these baseball games just makes me so freaking happy. I feel like I'm 10 years old again, sitting on the couch with my dad, listening to him shout at the umpires. There's nothing I like quite the way I like baseball. It is so ingrained in me, so much a part of who I am ever since I was on my first Little League team many many moons ago. From Little League to church softball to junior high softball to high school softball to college intramural softball. Aah, I should join a team here next spring.

But I forgot how much I love watching games, even on television, until I started watching the ALCS championship. My dad watches almost every Sox game and he will always ask me if I'm watching, and I would remind him that I don't watch games on TV. But here I sit almost every night, cowering under my lucky red blanket afraid to even blink. [livejournal.com profile] vorpalbla came to visit from Columbus and I made him sit on my couch and watch the game. I provided no other entertainment. I did give him a beer though.

I think it would be so amazingly awesome if the Sox won the World Series this year, because my grandfather wants to see them win SO badly (he was born in 1918) and this is also the year that Dad, Grandpa, Jen and I all went to Fenway together. If they win I am totally buying some World Series memorabilia for my dad and grandfather for the holidays, to commemorate our shared love of baseball and the time we spent together.

We're going to Olex and Jen's tonight to watch the game (of course Red Blanket is coming, too) and I am so excited to watch the game with some other people. Last night I was at a pizza parlor when the first home run was hit, and it was so much fun to start clapping at the table and hearing the other people cheering, too. Wednesday I might hit up a bar in Dottie or Southie to watch Game 4. Good times, people, good times.

My life has been so amazing since the Sox got into the playoffs. I feel like I'm home for real, even for only a few weeks. I don't even think about the cost of living right now. I only think about baseball and how Jen and I can save for season tickets for 2005.

Go Sox. I love being 10 years old again.

I was in St. Louis over the weekend, and I've got to tell you, that city is going CRAZY over this. I was at a comedy club seeing Heywood Banks and one of the members of the audience actually heckled him with the score of the game! They were all sad when the Sox won Game 1.

Did you see the photos in Crystal's journal?

And can you _believe_ what happened that night? I was bewildered.

Yes, I saw the photos, and I am still stunned by what happened. I am stunned every time I hear about how a bunch of raucous freaks ruin everyone's good time by doing stupid things like tipping cars and lighting things on fire. And then that other people get hurt (or killed) as a result of these stupid actions.

I thought I was free of idiotic sports rioting when I left Columbus. Boy was I wrong.
