Travel Plans
Oct. 28th, 2004 07:01 pmI think I've pretty much decided I'm going to drive to Queens tomorrow instead of taking the bus. I know I'll probably regret it later because I'll probably get slammed in traffic or something, but I think driving will make things more flexible and less aggravating in the long run. If I drive, I can leave whenever I want, like right after my last home visit, instead of having to go home and park the car, get on the T so I can get to the bus station, then buy a ticket for whatever time I get there, then wait for the bus, then take the bus to Port Authority, then take the subway and bus to Queens. I think that even if I hit traffic (and I will, it's inevitable) I will still come out ahead. If I caught the 3:00 bus I probably wouldn't get to Jodie's until 8:30ish anyway.
I'm thinking about different routes and I think my best bet to avoid some traffic will be to take 90 west to 84 west to 91 south to the Merritt Parkway to the Hutchinson River Parkway to the Whitestone Bridge to 678 S to the LIE to Queens. I should be able to dodge a bulk of the traffic because if I leave my home visit at 2:00 and get instantly on the highway, I should be able to get to the NY border at 5:00... then I will hit some commuter traffic in NY but I won't be going in the major traffic direction (I'll be going west on the LIE toward NYC, instead of fleeing the city) so it should be okay. Heck, maybe I could get to Queens by 6:30 or 7:00 and shave a huge bulk of time off. Also, with the car I'll be able to come home whenever I want.
Now I just need to see if Jen needs the car this weekend. And pack, so I can stuff everything in the car tomorrow morning.

Date: 2004-10-29 02:54 am (UTC)I mean, you will hit some traffic but most of it is really coming out of the city going east. just bring some good music and some food to snack on.
good luck on your trip

Date: 2004-10-29 03:07 am (UTC)If you see me on the Hutch, stuck in outbound traffic around Mamaroneck (which I can now pronounce, thanks to you!), be sure to wave. :)
Don't forget the Hutch is slow inbound between 287 and the Cross County. And WCBS 880 is your friend; there's some construction on all the bridges from the Bronx to the Island, and you might have to take the Throgs Neck despite your best intentions.
Also, without actually checking whether
jadefu heard back from
lorac about crashing there after
hoo and
gala's party for
jost, I'll tentatively suggest that we'd offer
kieron a ride out to Quincy or whereëver it is they live (and back) if she's not working. And then we could take over your cool guest bedroom. Clearly, I'm totally out of the loop on the planning here, having my own 23095862 emergencies to deal with this week, but it's a thought and an offer.
