I made it back from The City in a little under 4 hours flat - not too shabby. The weather was absolutely perfect for a drive, and there really isn't much better than blasting down the Merritt Parkway at about 65mph with the windows open, sunlight streaming into the car, beautiful foliage on the side of the road, and the smell of earth and harvest in the air. I could have stayed like that for hours. The only thing better, really, was the Yankee cap on the Van Wyck in the Bronx that I cheerfully ran over right after I crossed the Whitestone. HA!

I didn't get good sleep while I was there, a combination of the heat in the building, the couch-sleeping, the lack of smoochie, and the earlier daylight. I am therefore exhausted bodily but my mind is wide awake. Still, I had a good time. Jodie and I kicked around and watched some movies, carved pumpkins, ate like fatties, and drove around Queens looking for costume supplies. The costume party was a pretty good time, if only because I also got to see my old ya-yas Lia, Jeanette, and Vicky. We're old as dirt, though, and ducked out of the party at midnight to hit the diner before turning into pumpkins. What the heck happened to me that I now arrive at parties at 8:00pm and am ready to go home at 12:00? Loserama.

It may sound cheesy and pathetic, but the one thing that would have really made the weekend better is if my Jennifer had been able to come along. I would have slept a lot better, that's for sure, and the beautiful drive this afternoon would have been pure bliss with her hand on my leg. I am so thankful for her presence in my life (even if I did come home to find she'd somehow turned the bed into a shambles in my absence).

Happy Halloween, kids. I now live in one of those neighborhoods where people from other places drive their kids. I wonder if they think big houses = big candy. Who knows? I'm glad my landlords had a huge basket of candy downstairs - Kevin told me they get more than a hundred trick-or-treaters every year! WOW!

Trick-or-treating in our apartment complex was disappointing at best -- perhaps a quarter of the residents answered the door and barely half of them had candy, so we took Laurel to a residential neighborhood because we can guess whether people were giving out treats by their outdoor lights and it's easier to walk a few blocks than go up and down stairs.

My parents' neighborhood is really popular because it's one of the few in their town with houses set close together and short driveways. The big candy is in the more 'mountain' neighborhoods where every house has a quarter-mile driveway.

You know, our houses are close together and have short driveways, so maybe that has something to do with it. And it's probably one of the safer neighborhoods in Dorchester, so I guess people just ship their kids over. There were A LOT of kids, though!

Well I was there to give you squeezes for ya, and Im humbly proud to be there doing that.

Evidence:

She was able to hold an entire kitchen worth of people rapt with cogent arguments on social rights. I was totally impressed and just respect her all the more.

Mad props to you, sister.

(whatever they are!!)

I miss arguments about social rights. I should get into more arguments.

What about debates?

And some arguments can be good. You just have to make them productive.

Productivity is also bad. And debates. Everything is bad and I will fight you about it whether you like it or not.

(...Dont you?)

Hmm.

I dont seem to be able to engage you in argument. You're just too good! Perhaps thats why can extract things from me, as if I were a clam that only a few people have keys to.

And, actually, I love that. You're really great.
