Weekend Recap
Nov. 7th, 2004 10:36 pmThis was a good one, so I'd like it banked for posterity. Then maybe I can play it on repeat a couple of times.
Friday I had intended to get out of work at 3:00, but I ended up having an absolutely hysterical conversation with Veronica and Gina in the office. We talked about the most ridiculous stuff, about the mafia, the Amish, my father... it was a good time. I got home and got to spend some time with Jen that unfortunately turned into an argument, but thankfully we didn't get to stew because Jenn and Wiley were picking us up for our date. We went to this cute Mexican place in the Fenway that had not-as-yummy-as-Chipotle-but-still-quite-yummy burritos and then met up with Chris and Jess at the AMC Fenway to see The Incredibles. The movie was absolutely adorable and I think I would have totally loved it, but I guess I was mentally and physically exhausted because I fell asleep in the middle of it and missed a good chunk of the movie. Oops. I still had a good time. Then we came home and crashed hard.
Saturday we got up early and were going to partake in what Scott Simmons calls "horizontal refreshment" but we had too much to do and were afraid not to get it all done. We were going to run a ton of errands, but we only got around to some of them. We went down to Borders to use our gift cards that were birthday gifts from Jenn. After getting some not-so-yummy Borders Cafe coffee, I bought Fast Food Nation and Cunt. We looked at kitties at PetCo or PetSmart or PetLand or PetMart or PetSomething and then headed to Hanover to go to the big Trader Joe's. We bought lots of delicious foodles and then raced home with them. I put the food away and Jen changed the sheets on the bed, and then I had to shower to get up to New Hampshire for nails's birthday. We went to CR Sparks in Manchester-ish where I got to meet nails's sister April (who was quite cool) and finally met Sabu (who was also quite lovely). Tracey/Zephyr made an appearance from Vermont, which was neat since I hadn't seen her in 87328793 years. My Jennifer was especially happy because she and Tray used to be BFF in college, so that was good. I also got to spend some time with Matty Jean, which was also nice. nails was so adorable in his wine-induced goofiness, and we all stuffed ourselves to the gills and ate yummy desserts that were quite FAT. There were 7 of us and the bill was like $500. It was seriously insane. Sabu wouldn't take our money so now we need to think of devious and clever ways to sneak it to him. Then we drove out to the middle of nowhere, I mean nails's house, and spent some time with him before heading back to the Dot.
We had to get up early this morning so we could meet
kungfoogirl and company at Chau Chow City for dim sum. Normally I don't like dim sum but this was a much more pleasant dim sum experience... so perhaps I will stop boycotting it. (Besides, I have more important things to boycott these days, like ExxonMobil.) We got to see Jenn and Wiley again, as well as Christina, Shani and Matty, Carrie and William, Jess, Gary, and a woman named Diana that I'd never met - but Wiley said she did a Strongwoman competition, so she's okay in my book! After dim sum, a bunch of us grabbed coffee at Dunkins and then Jenn and Christina came back to our house so we could spend time. We ended up dragging them on our errands, while they watched us bicker over dishes and flatware. We have now successfully replaced the Wedding Flatware. Score. We also dragged them to Lambert's for produce, and then stopped to have delicious (FAT) ice cream. We came back and played some Phase 10 where I got seriously creamed, and then Shani came to pick up the girls so Christina could go to the airport. But I got to smooch Shani /and/ see her new Mini Cooper! Currently, Jen and I are doing copious amounts of laundry, have run the new dishes through the dishwasher, and continued the fatty weekend by ordering chinese take-out. While eating, we watched this totally bizarre french film called 8 Women that I absolutely loved in all of its craziness. And we managed to dig out the Good Vibrations gift certificate we got for Christmas last year and put it to good use - AND they are having a 20% off everything sale that ends today. So GOOOO!
It's funny, but I'm starting to get enjoyment out of the domestic rut we've found ourselves in. I was commenting to Christina that she is probably living a wild and crazy life of sin and my life has become boring in its domesticity, but the truth is that I find it all warmly comforting. It's true that I don't like that Jen and I usually get one day off together a week and spend it doing errands, but I like experiencing the mundane with her. I guess this means I'm getting old and settling down. It's quite pleasant, I must say. Things are starting to settle down around here with us, too, which is nice. We've been consistantly getting paid for several months now and things are less desperate than they were. We banked a little money which makes me less anxious about the upcoming heating bills, and I think we can adjust our budget a little bit to a) have more fun and b) cut some more of our debt down.
Also, I think Christina should move up here with us. Yes.
(p.s. Happy birthday,
aliandra!)
