Wow. I had a totally pleasant doctor experience. Color me pleased.

In drastic opposition to my last doctor, this one did not roll her eyes at me when I knew medical facts. Also, she did not assume I was having sex with boys. Also, she asked my Jennifer's name, and asked if we were planning to get married, and asked if I wanted her to sneak the pre-marriage blood test into my physical so insurance would pay for it. (Unfortunately I didn't take care of the last item, since I'm not sure when we're officially tying the knot and the blood test's only good for a month. Cause, you know, after that you might GO GET SYPHILLIS!) I have now been poked, looked at, and lubed up for a year. I have also had blood drawn for cholesterol and diabetes check (required by doctor), to check for PCOS (requested by me), and to prove immunization for MMR (required by job). When I get my results I'm going to make arrangements to begin the immunization series for HepA and HepB. Shots-a-plenty!

I think the pinnacle of irony, though, was that I was early for my appointment, so I decided to sit and read more of Fast Food Nation. In a McDonald's. HA!

This space intentionally left blank. Maybe next time it will be filled with brilliant observations and flowery prose.

I'm actually not sure if I have it. In all truth, I probably don't.

Doctors have never been able to discern the cause of my irregular periods, which have always been irregular since I got my first period at 14 and which have actually disappeared entirely in the last three years or so. (Now the only time I bleed is when I take a short course of Provera.) I've had my hormone levels checked 87932892 times and have had an MRI to look for a pituitary adenoma. (All normal.) Last year I went for a pelvic ultrasound to check for PCOS, and I had no cysts. My current doctor said that you don't need cysts for PCOS, so she's running the blood test. We'll see what happens.

Really, I'm not even sure I care why I don't get a period. Except that someday I might want to have a baby. I doubt it, I've always wanted to adopt. But you just never know, right?

p.s. Thank you for offering your support! I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Kudos to you finding a doc that didn't roll her eyes at you! And that's so cool she didn't assume you were with guys. I'm curious about the PCOS results, glad you asked about it.

I'm sure I will update with info when I find out. And I was SO GLAD you gave me the info that you don't need cysts to have PCOS. My doctor said the same thing yesterday and I was like, "I know! I just found that out from a friend about a month ago!"

Ha! A girl on the bus asked me if I was liking the book (she had read it recently) and I said, "I AM NEVER EATING AGAIN!!"

I felt the same way! Seriously, it's a good thing I gave up red meat 12 years ago, or I would have been freaking out.

They still make you take a blood test to get married in Mass? Ewww. Good thing CA doesn't or I would have made the drive to Nevada. Out here you just fill out the form, pay the clerk, then go downstairs where the guy in the blue robe does a 45 second ceremony. *poof* Almost instant marriage. They'll even provide a witness for you if you didn't bring one of your own, and give you a souvenir marriage certificate. You have to come back in 2 days and pay for it if you want the real one. Yay for county government.

Yep, you still need the blood test. Poop.

And most of me would really like your Instant Marriage (just add water!). But there is a little bit of me that wants a big, goofy celebration. I dunno.

That doctor sounds KICK ASS.

And I haven't read Fast Food Nation, but now I will. Have you seen the film "Supersize Me?" You should. It's great.

I actually just saw Supersize Me last night and I LOVED IT. Also, I think it convinced Jennifer to avoid fast food. This was my secret goal all along!!
