Earlier today I whipped out the holiday music and wrapped a bunch of presents. Now I just need some ribbon and a tree to put them under! I used to make all of my own bows for presents but I've been totally slack for the last couple of years, and this year I want to go Christmas Crazy! So I must have ribbon, stat! The presents all look so cute all wrapped up! Now I want to buy MORE MORE MORE, especially presents for the kids. I think that even though my Jennifer and I already bought gifts for her niece and nephews, I want to go buy more. I'm all about buying toys.

Thanks to the lovely [livejournal.com profile] siercia, I didn't have to spend the whole time waiting for my car at the dealership. She helped me run some errands and then she and the lovely Widget had a lunch date with me. Good times. I ended up waiting about an hour and used the time to read my book club book. We're meeting on December 13th and it's a HUGE book, so I really should get cracking! (The Bone People by Keri Hulme)

I am so proud of what my Jennifer and I have done with our finances. I was telling [livejournal.com profile] folkyboy the other day that I avoid getting neurotic about our money by choosing to not know anything about our money. I don't look in the checkbook. I don't pay the bills. I don't touch a thing. Every so often I'll ask Jen, "Do we have enough money for this?" (and she always says yes, HA!) - that's it. So I was telling Tim about how Jen and I have been working like mad to pay off her credit card debt. He asked how much she had and I had /no/ /idea/ so I made up a guess. And my guess was like $2500 off! I asked Jen about it and she told me how much was left on the card and I was so surprised and shocked and happy. It was like Christmas! So we paid the ENTIRE bill out of the savings account. I figure it's better to make a monthly payment to our savings than to the credit card (and no finance charges!). So now all of her credit card debt is GONE. In fact, we have no credit card debt now, aside from recent purchases (Christmas presents, Northampton hotel), since I'm not a credit card person. I am so proud of us and our ability to pull all of this off. We're the best!

In honor of our financial prowess, I present you with the Ralph-in-a-Box. It's not a Charlie-in-a-Box, but it will do.

It is so exciting! I was always freaking out about her credit card debt because I've never had credit card debt, so it was so weird and freaky to me. And it seemed so high (even though other people have a lot higher I know, but when you're used to none...) and so daunting and she'd been paying on them for like forever...

I always felt like a hardass whenever I would make plans for her credit cards, and when I asked her to stop using them and switching the balances around and stuff, but now I'm glad for it, because I'm so glad it's gone Gone GONE!

(And you must feel so great, too!)

Congratulations on getting everything paid off! I'm in the process of doing that, myself.

Is that your cat? Mine love to plop down in any box they can find, even if it's a quarter of their size. I wish I'd gotten one of my fluffy orange kitty inside my roos box. All you could see were the tips of his ears and a ball of orange tabby fluff. :)

Yes, this is my kitty, Ralph. I also have a big fatty catty (Daedalus (http://www.evilgeniuses.com/smurfy/daedalus1.jpg)). Cats in boxes totally rule. I love when I find my cats in boxes. It is just too cute.

And thanks - it feels so good to have all that credit card crap be gone. :)

your Daedalus looks like my willow, but a bit larger (she's 7 pounds). she's currently licking a plastic bag...crazy beast.

congrats on the no debt too...

I used to have a cat that liked licking plastic bags. Ralph is obsessed with sitting on them, but doesn't lick them.

I love cats!

That's the best text I've ever seen on a userpic.

I've never made my own bows for presents, but I made a wreath bow this year. I should post a photo so everyone can marvel at its plaidness -- the only ribbon I could find in our sewing stash over 1/2" wide was plaid. I have no idea why we need so much plaid ribbon, but every time I hear the "mad about plaid" song in Scotch tape ads, I tease Vogon that it's about him. (;

Congratulations on your financial situation!

Ooh, I totally want to see your wreath. I have never really done anything crafty like that, so you are a better person than I am. :)

And thanks!

Yeah, that's how I manage money as well. Except that process hasn't really worked out so well for me lately. . .

The user pic? Love it, love it, love it.

It doesn't work for you because you're ONE PERSON, silly! You need to get yourself an Alex Cabot lookalike to do all your finances for you. (At your discretion.)

Congratulations! Being debtfree is a *good* feeling.

Well, I can't even /remotely/ say we're debt-free. Jen's student loan debt makes the Baby Jesus cry.

This picture makes me happy.

Ezra jumped in a box the other day and cracked me up because instead of looking around like cats usually do, she started at her front paws.
