I was supposed to meet a friend for coffee this evening, but I cancelled, even though I haven't seen her in over a year. I think I need the time, though, without the running around. Especially since I went to Target with [livejournal.com profile] folkyboy and it was a total mob scene, and I still haven't gotten all the purchases out of the car.

Jen won't be home from work until at least 11pm. (Poo.) So that gives me nearly 5 hours to do whatever I want! I think I shall take a bath in the Giant Tub (while reading the bookclub book of much slack) and then put on pajamas. And then maybe I will indulge in one of the hip hop movies I got from Netflix (so that Jen doesn't have to be subjected to my guilty love). And perhaps ice cream will also be involved. (But I'll probably get the rest of the packages and wrap presents first, so I won't be tempted to think about them.)

I find it interesting that I have tended lately to write heady stuff of a somewhat sad nature. Because the reality is that things are currently so much better and more stable than they were during and after the big move. I didn't write much then at all, but things were really down and bleak. So I guess just the fact that I'm overly verbose is a good sign. Heh.

If you think my LJ is bad, you should hear the voicemail messages I leave for people.

Can I get in on that action?

I had a very date-with-myself sort of day. Bath, audio books, wrapping gifts, sugaring cranberries--tonight is Chinese takeout and movies and laundry and maybe working on my quilt top. Good for you for self-indulgence.

Oh yeah, I have to do those cranberries sometime! Maybe tomorrow morning. Yeah! Yum.

I also need to bake sometime. Must. Bake!

I heart your vmessages - but maybe mine isn't one of "those" kinds.

Get off lj, stop reading your email and have a self date. Heh, that could be taken......well you know how I mean it.

Oooh, a self-date.

Oh, sometimes I've left you the sorts of messages I'm talking about. You know, the ones where I start off all slow and deliberate: "Hi. This is Jude. I was just calling to get back to you about next weekend..." and then I continue babbling: "I think it would be a good idea, because we were meaning to go out anyway and it would be fun to go with you guys. So maybe we can all go to a movie. Unless you don't want to go to a movie and would rather do something else. Either way is cool. Just let me know, and if you do want to see a movie, let me know what you want to see..." And then I realize that the message is getting really long, so I speed up and cut out: "Okay, whatever, I'm babbling, gottagocallmebackbye."

Aside from 8 Mile, what hip-hop movies exist?

let me know if they're good so I can put them on my queue.

Well, they're not all specifically movies about hip hop, but there are tons of movies with hip hop artists as actors. I'm currently watching Juice starring Tupac Shakur. I also love anything with Ice-T in it. :) Or Queen Latifah. :) :) (I recommend Set It Off because she plays a hot butch lesbian in it. *swoon*)

So I suppose they're not all "hip hop" movies per se. Although I also have Carmen: A Hip Hopera here in my house from Netflix.

I'm a big fan of New Jack City. What's that other movie that has hip hop in it? Is it Brown Sugar? I think so.

Have you seen the one about the ballet dancer that has to move in with her dad when her mom dies and she falls in love with this guy who teaches her hip hop moves and then she mixes them in with her ballet dancing?

LOVED IT!

That's Save the Last Dance starring Julia Stiles and Sean Patrick Thomas. I love that movie, it's really cute. :)

No, I didn't. In fact, I must be totally living under a rock because I have no clue which movie you're talking about. *quick check of IMDB* I see that it's called Taxi and I will have to rent it sometime, specifically because the movie tagline is "He's armed and she's dangerous." Heh.

I have been following along with your "bit of a girlfriend," and not only do I think it is the cutest thing ever, but it seems she is quite pleased with the nature of your 14-year-old-boy-ness. So keep it up. :)

If I had any smoove dyke mojo, it would be yours. Instead, I will just give you a BIG FAT KISS.

The best hip hop movie ever is the '80's flick "Breakin'." The sequel, "Breakin' 2 - Electric Boogaloo" wasn't as good, but I still love saying the name -- boogaloo.

We should! I agree. Maybe when all this holiday craziness dies down. Or something.

We should make you dinner sometime.

I disagree. I think the greatest hip hop movie is Beat Street. Also 80s.

Oooh, very nice, very nice. You are quite lucky. (And so is she!)

Sometimes a little nervous is good. Very cute and endearing!

Says you, but it doesn't sound as good to add 'boogaloo' to.

True. I can agree with that.
