At first she seemed about as open-minded as a Conservative Republican Christian could get. I thought her main problem was the share of the housework and the time with the kid, which was understandable. Then she kind of just threw it out there.
She is married to a black man. Nikki made a good point - until about forty years ago people used the Bible to prevent interracial marriages. How do people ignore things like that?
And dad just sitting there made me want to puke. Although, her kids seemed way more open-minded. And that oldest? I'm not sure he's heading down the straight and narrow path, no matter how much mama encourages him. Am I seeing things?
Oh my gosh, I was thinking that about the oldest son, too... but I've been accused of thinking /everyone/ is queer so I just kept my little trap shut.
I, too, was really sad that the dad just sat there and listened to all of that and didn't say a single word. Although it looked (to me) like he hesitated a little bit before holding his wife's hand after the "confrontation" or whatever.
But why couldn't he just say, "Honey, she was nothing but kind and appropriate with our kids," or something? That would have really made me like him.
i have to disagree. she started the show off with a completely closed mind. one of her first comments (that i noted in another jude journal entry) was when she was looking at the books on the bookshelf and said, "an unconventional family that has problems raising their children. i wonder if there's a connection there?" all snarky-like.
i turned it off immediately because i knew i was just going to get upset if i continued to watch it from there
