What is it with the "people hating lesbians" stuff on television this week?

Haha. Yeah, that was wierd.

Maybe we should should stop watching TV?

Or maybe we should take consolation in the fact that these issues are being aired?

But yeah, hatred for lesbians two nights in a row? What about all those other groups that are hated. Spread the love (hate) for God's sake.

Word. It's time to hate someone else tomorrow.

I never watch this much television, but reading this week's journal you would never know it. I actually only caught the end of ER because I was observing a shift at the place I'm going to be volunteering. But I caught the lesbo-hating parts. ;)

the whole show was mostly just a very slow buildup to that very depressing ending.

As is often the case with ER, the most depressing show on television.

Do lots of lesbians have poor color schemes? Am I missing something?

Darn. I knew there was a reason I wanted to stay up tonight but I couldn't remember why. So, what happened when she found her birth mother?

What am I, your personal TV Guide? (Ha!)

Well, I only caught the last part, but apparently her mother was in Chicago because she was doing some sort of concert singing with her church choir group or something, and she went to the hospital and found Carrie because Carrie wrote her a letter four years ago (that's what Jen said). Then they were showing each other pictures and Carrie had a picture of Henry and her dead partner, and her biomom made some comment about Carrie having a nanny and asked about her husband. And Carrie went into the bathroom and cried, and then came out and told her mom that she was gay. And mom kind of got uncomfortable and went back to her hotel. Carrie eventually went there and they talked a little and it ended with a lot of "you made a choice" and "I love you but I don't accept you."

Old ER Fan Query

OK, I haven't watched ER in years. I gave up because it became way too soap opera-ish about 3-4 years ago. (It wasn't just Kerry, it was the fact that EVERYBODY had a crisis, but I digress...)

-- Who's Henry?
-- "Dead Partner"=The firefighter she was starting off with when I stopped watching?

(I guess I'm interested in this facet, since Kerry's the only one left I'm familiar with since Carter's apparently on the way out?)

I love TWoP so much I want to kiss it on the mouth. I used to read all of their Survivor recaps. Sadly, I don't usually have time to read anymore. Damn me for having a job that doesn't leave time for mindless internet!

My TV has been limited this week. I've worked through almost all of prime time. However, I was watching CNN's never-ending coverage of Charles and Camilla's wedding announcement tonight, and a little blurb caught my eye.

Charles and Camilla will have a civil marriage, to avoid issues with the church and divorcées remarrying. Then, the Archbishop of Canterbury will preside over a service to bless their union, the same type of service performed for same-sex couples.

Oops, I spoke too soon about the TV. I'm watching Leno, and he's had a potshot joke at a celebrity, a stereotype joke, and a Michael Jackson joke.

Heh, no. I still haven't even read the transcript of the State of the Union Address.

Besides, everyone knows GOD HATES FAGS, not lesbians!

I got so upset with Wife Swap that I changed the channel. Law & Order was just as bad -- conservative media type on a book tour killed by his wife's female lover, wife denies knowing her, surprise appearance on stand by teenage son who caught mother and lover in bed, wife found guilty of whatever it is someone gets charged with for killing their husband for the inheritance money.

Since I've got the flu, I hope Vogon and Laurel will make a Blockbuster run so I can watch stuff that isn't so depressing. Or at least get Bend It Like Beckham again 'cause all the girls in it are cute.

I loved Bend It Like Beckham! It is such a cute movie!

Television is a real drag. I guess that's why I stopped watching it a long time ago. Too bad I got sucked into tv-ness by watching Survivor.

I dunno, but I found the end of ER quietly empowering. Yes, it was sad, but it was along the lines of Kerry saying "Well, you gave me up so I could have a better life than the one you could provide. Now I am giving YOU up because I have that life and you find fault with it. You can't have it both ways, lady."

When biomom made that comment about "Oh, no wonder you have a nanny!" after seeing the pic with Sandy, I almost puked. Great, she's a homophobe AND a racist.

Kerry may walk with a crutch, but biomom there has the bigger one. Her "church".

Yeah, I was all ROWR about the nanny comment, too. That's when I knew the show was just going to make me mad.

And yeah, you're right, it was empowering of Carrie (Kerry? Karrie? Whatever.) to walk away, especially because she'd hung onto hope for so long. I always liked her as a strong character who also has well-established weaknesses, and I don't mean her disability.

(Although I found it funny that like 30 seconds after I asked Jen, "Did the show ever say why she uses a crutch?" Carrie's mom asked her why she uses a crutch. I PREDICT FUTURE.)

I watched that Wife Swap ep you talked about earlier this week and was so pissed off at that woman!! Eric and I wanted to find her house and beat the shit out of her. I don't understand that kind of hate that she exhibited. What a bitch!

And hugs to you on Jen asking about the baby business! Very cool!
