judecorp | Funeral and other Fun

So we went to a wake, and to a funeral, and to a burial, and to a dinner-after-a-funeral which has a name that I think begins with 'C' but I could be making that up. And I ate lots of yummy food courtesy of my family, and I saw relatives that I haven't seen since I was like five, and they made sure to point that out. And one of my grandparents' friends personally stopped me to tell me how pretty my haircut was, and how she didn't recognize me because it was just so beautiful. This is comical because I don't /have/ a haircut... I have this mop of dark hair on my head because I haven't gotten a haircut, not even a trim and shaping, in over 2 months and my 'bangs' are hanging in my eyes and it's just a huge mess. But apparently it is PRETTY!!

(Which means I /really/ need a haircut. Heh.)

I am so glad that my Jennifer was able to get time off to come down with me. Not only do I love spending time with her, I like bringing her to family things and reaffirming how serious we are about each other. And I love that no one knows how to introduce her, and they're all just like, "And this is Jen." I think I said, "This is my wife, Jennifer," to my aunt Rita (Ms. Hasn't Seen Me Since I Was Five) but I don't think she caught it and well, who cares?

I think embalming and showings are totally creepy, and I don't understand why anyone has them. Fake, plastic-y dead bodies are just... yuck. Cremation all the way for me, man!

Everyone in my family seemed okay with everything, even my grandfather. I hope it's not something that will just hit people later. I hope the reality is that Uncle Ralph was almost 90 years old and lived a long life, and then got sick and was just not himself. I hope. I hate the idea of people I care about suffering.

I also hope my grandparents live for the next 98439817098743 years. Especially at least until the arrival of great grandchildren.
