This morning when we were watching a little bit of television before she had to leave for work, Jennifer commented on a commercial by saying, "I want to buy baby clothes." I AM WINNING.

Also, I really /really/ want Jen to get into that UMASS program that she applied for so that we can move to Easthampton, buy a cute and affordable house, and have babies.

Confession: I really really REALLY want my child to be valedictorian of his/her high school class, like I was, like my mother was before me. I want a neat little nerdy legacy. I /know/ it's bad to want those things, and I'm totally scared of being that parent that dumps heaps of pressure on a child, but I /waaaaant/ it! Maybe I'll just have to have biophile6's baby to ensure that reality.

You could just have the kid go to my high school where they didn't have a valedictorian. I was pissed that they didn't pick me for the speech (cuz duh I was captain of the speech team) but they picked the mega jock girl who was also nerdy. bah! We had three different ways of class rankings, so they wouldn't certify any of them as official and you couldn't have a valedictorian as you'd have three of em. (Different classes were worth different weights, so you could have a 4.0 in remedial classes and be at the top of the straight GPA list, but you could have a 3.9 in honours classes and get the most weighted points. Despite my dyscalculia and ADD, neither of which the school would accomodate, I still wound up 12th out of 300+ on the point rankings even with straight C's in math. It's just weird.)

Yeah, I think it's totally weird how they calculate that stuff, which makes it even MORE wrong to want it. (My school weighted honors classes too... I think you got an extra 0.5 GPA if it was an honors or AP class or something.) I really just want happy kids, but the idea of what a cute little "local flavor" news story it would be is something I'm a bit fond of.

Personally I don't care that I was valedictorian, and I almost refused to give a speech at all and threw a big panicky temper tantrum about it. But since I have so few ties to my mother's side of the family, it seems extra neat.

I'm sure you will find other ties to that side of the family. But don't forget Jen's sides too! My mom and I were in the same sorority at the same college, that was kinda cool :) Move to a small town and you'll have a better chance at the valedictorian thing ;) But you'll probably get a total jock kid who refuses to take honours classes cut it will cut into his/her practice time ;)

I like Jen's family a lot, well, the ones I know. (I haven't met any of her extended family at all.) We're pretty estranged from my mother's family since I grew up with my dad and his family, and my mother doesn't keep close ties to her family (just her mom).

I'm sure that when Jen has a baby, her mom is going to swoop in and steal it. She is totally a baby-stealer! Worse than me!!

yay babies! yay pioneer valley!!! you guys should come out here for noho pride this year. basically the whole parade is like 4 queer youth and then 93748923742937439274 lesbians and their babies. whoo hoo!

i can't get you a big gay job out here, but i can ensure you a big gay volunteer job! there's a queer youth center here that is always looking for volunteers.

Well yeah, I have no problem finding volunteer jobs, but I need a job that pays real money! It doesn't have to be Big and Gay, but it has to, you know, pay the mortgage for the cute house! :)

I should totally just quit my job and be a full-time non-live-in nanny for one spoiled child when we have a baby... so I can watch our own baby and watch another kid for $$$.

Actually, all I'm waiting for is for Jennifer to get some schweet job out there (heck even a non-schweet job would be okay at this point if it looked like it was a decent FT income) and then I wanna go house shopping!
