Close call with the car inspection
Jun. 28th, 2005 07:13 pmI went to get the car inspected today, since the end of the month is, you know, a couple of days from now. I decided to go to the fancy-looking Dorchester Tire instead of the Five Brothers place in Ashmont that I went to last year, partly to inquire about tires since the ones we have now are basically totally bald.
So I go in and I pay the money for the inspection, and the Nice Guy Behind The Counter calls me Jennifer because the car is registered to her. And I ask him, while waiting for the car, "Hey, how much would it cost for some tires for my crappy little car?" He laughs, quotes me a price, and tells me not to call the car crappy if it gets me from here to there. I tell him I'll start saving my pennies.
Not two minutes later, the Nice Man Doing My Inspection comes in and I hear him muttering to NGBTC, "Can you come check out these tires for me?" in hushed tones.
NGBTC promptly comes back and tells me that our tires are terrible (which I know) and that they're terrible enough to cause us to fail inspection. But that he KNOWS that I'm going to get new tires really soon since I already asked about it, and gives me the keys to my newly-inspected car.
To which I reply, "OKAY, THANKS, BYE!!!" and duck into the car before he changes his mind.
