judecorpJen called this morning to tell me about bombings on the Tube. The whole thing continues to be totally unfathomable to me. I guess it doesn't help that I live in a fantasy world where everyone thinks like I do about everything. (Of course they do, because I'm always right!) Since I can't possibly imagine wishing violence on anyone, it is always stunning to me that someone else can.
I hate that these things continue to happen, which only reinforces the warmongers that lead some of our world powers. I hate that the smug smirk will come out again, the "See, I told you so," the popularity of war and the need to "kill terrorists" rather than eliminate terror and hatred. When will we see notification of another 'successful, completed operation' that is neither completed nor successful?
At times like this I /really/ feel like I'm wasting time doing what I do when CLEARLY I should be working for world peace. But oh wait, that shit got funding cut AGES ago.

They HATE you, they hate your freedom, they hate your God (if you believe in one)... and you can't change that, little naieve thing.
It will do us no good to try to "understand and sympathize" with the terrorists, they need to be eliminated. And yes, war is ugly - it brings death, sacrifice, and suffering. But we don't live in a perfect world, and never will. There will be the existence of war today, tomorrow, and always. We have a choice here... stand up and let them know we won't tolerate their "terror and hate" by getting rid of their leaders and sympathizers by any means possible.
And if you can't understand that, then you may as well be one of them. THINK ABOUT IT.

I'll respond to this more thoroughly (though didn't I kind of do this already in September of 2001? Oh yes, HERE (http://judecorp.livejournal.com/54758.html)) when I'm not out the door to a home visit and then on to babysitting.
Or maybe I'm just too much of a little naieve thing [sic] to THINK ABOUT IT properly. (Rule one: calling someone a "little _______ thing" is a GREAT way to get him/her to listen to your side of an argument.)

3. The people who bombed London are using exactly your own argument but with a different definition of US and THEM. THINK ABOUT IT.
4. People act like animals when they are treated like animals. Just because certain nations have shaped the world by acting like sadistic ringmasters kicking sick puppies does not mean it will always be like this. THINK ABOUT IT.
5. You are not even brave enough to put your name behind your words. You wish to kill people but do so from beyond a screen of anonymity because you do not have enough moral strength to stand up and be counted - even if we disagree with your opinions. THINK ABOUT IT.
What would I do? I'd observe that, historically, oppression and invasion lead to terrorist cells with popular support so that instead of only madmen perpetrating acts of terror you get 'reasonable people' who become complicit in these actions because their own lives are so badly affected. I'd try to stop countries meddling with other countries for financial gain. I'd devolve armies to the control of the UN so that unified international action could deploy force to 'true' rogue states. I'd try to redistribute aid around despotic governments that had been put in place through the direct and indirect actions of foreign states. And then I'd wait and see if it worked, and if I didn't, I'd try again.
