judecorp: (probst loves me!)

My boss had a little Survivor premiere get-together at her house. It was kind of fun except that the mood was definitely dampened by the theft of My Jennifer's bag.

My boss gave everyone Monopoly money and then had one of those Survivor-style food auctions where she brought out one dish at a time under a cover. (Everything was a mystery item.) Jen totally lucked out and her money was spent on stuffed pork chops and homemade pad thai. Gina bought a fruit salad and a little chocolate cake. Ben (Gina's husband) bought a bowl of boiled rice, a can of slugs (?), and Mountain Dew and Doritos. I held out quite a bit and I bought a chicken caesar salad and bid out the last item which was a banana and a coconut. So now I will take my coconut to work.

The premiere was okay but it didn't have the excitement of previous seasons. Hopefully it will pick up. I don't remember being that jazzed about last season, either, especially at the beginning. We'll see. My coworkers keep insisting that I watch The Amazing Race but I really don't need any more television, thanks.

My boss is so hysterical in her Survivor love. She dressed up like Jeff Probst for the evening! (Then again, I wore a Boy Scout shirt and said I was Lill.) Ben was supposed to "dress" like Richard Hatch but he totally wussed out. Oh well.

Oooh, Amazing Race is very worth the extra TV. Most seasons, anyway. I'm not sure how I'm going to like this family edition this year. But normally? It's one of the best game shows ever.

What makes it so good?

(And yeah, I'm a little leary about the families thing.)

It's well designed, the teams have to be not only physically strong but mentally strong as well. There is a ton of strategy involved and also a good bit of luck. The places they go are (for the most part) very interesting and the tasks are challenging. The part of me that wishes I could travel more really loves it.

Yeah, I think I would definitely love the travel aspect of it. :)

Allyson swears we're going on the Amazing Race. We watch the reruns on the game show network like every night, and she takes mental notes so that when we're on it we can win.

I'm so happy Steph is on Survivor again... I want to make out with her when she's all dirty wearing nothing but her bra and Survivor snuggie.

Shit... she just called me from the living room... Amazing Race is on! It's always on! :)

I wanna go on the Amazing Race, too!! I want to go to all of those countries. :)

I wish I had cable only for the Game Show Network. I love game shows!

How can you not be excited when they brought back Stephanie?!?!?!?! And she won immunity!

GET EXCITED. ;)

I /am/ excited to see Stephenie. I love her!

But I dunno, this season just hasn't clicked for me yet.

Sounds Like Fun

It sounds fun just to do silly stuff like that. I hope Jenn's bag was found.

No, I'm sure her bag is long gone by now. Her book, her umbrella, and one other minor thing were turned in to Lost and Found at the mall... but there's no way (I don't think) we're ever going to see the iPod, the pens, or the glasses again.

Apropos of Other Things

[livejournal.com profile] thespian sent me to you. I have a sack of small, safe, inexpensive toys and I wanted someone to give them to who could give them to kids who could use them, and I also live in Boston. So.

I'm not being very coherent, but hopefully this will be clearer:

Anyway, hi. *waves*

Hi!

I read your post and I think it is incredibly sweet. I do Early Intervention, which means that I work with children under 3. They are too young for the kinds of toys you're talking about, but their siblings aren't!

Every year around the holidays we help get holiday gifts for some of our families that we know need help getting Santa to come to their houses. I'm sure your thoughtful stockings (or just the toys themselves if you wanted me to make the stockings) would be a great addition to that!

Let me know what you want to do. I'd be glad to take them off your hands and pass them around Dot and Roxbury.

*blush* You're welcome, and thanks. :)

I don't have any stockings at the moment, but I do have a sack of toys to split between you and my friend who works at a library. So. Where and when can we meet (I can go anywhere on the T) so I can give you these?

Also, a good source for inexpensive, interesting, intelligent toys: http://www.sciplus.com/

Depending on where you live, I might be able to come get them. I live in Dorchester on the Red Line, which can sometimes be a supreme pain in the butt. We are also usually out and about on Sunday mornings (sometimes) and could meet up then sometime.

I dunno - what works best for you?

I am such a dink. I'm sorry I took so long to get back to you.

So. Drop me an email at browngirl at livejournal dot com, and we'll figure out a day and a T station to meet at and have coffee near.

that was actually what I was thinking of...I bet your service does provide a little for the kids under their aegis, but not so much for kids who've moved beyond it. This might help you keep from going out and buying presents yourself, which I *know* you'd do...

Actually, believe it or not, I haven't done that! That isn't to say I haven't purchased things that I occasionally bring to kids' houses (like bubbles or playdough or whatever), but I have never bought presents.

We're fortunate enough to be hooked up with an agency (http://www.cradlestocrayons.org/) that collects slightly-used toys, cleans them up, and redistributes them. I "order" a lot of things and good developmental toys for my families from there. So many of my families' toys consist entirely of what comes out of a Happy Meal box.

But you're right, if I had to, I would probably find a way to buy them all presents. ;)
