I have to go to a wedding rehearsal in RI tonight (ugh) because I am doing a reading in a wedding tomorrow. I couldn't remember what time the rehearsal was, and since I have to drive down there (in rush hour traffic, kill me now), I was trying to call everyone I could think of. I tried calling the bride, but she apparently has a new cell phone number because I got some dude. I tried looking up her parents' phone number in the white pages, but they're unlisted. Finally I carefully pried open my old phone to call the Maid of Honor. I got voicemail. Left a message. Waited.

She calls me back and says she didn't get my call right away because she's shopping for something to wear to the rehearsal. "Just a nice top," she says, "and a new necklace."

Feck. I was planning to wear a baseball cap.

(Do people dress up for these things? Am I totally clueless? I've never been in a wedding.)

Rehearsals are often lead-ins to rehearsal dinners. IME, they're not _dressy_, but neither are they schlumpy. I'd say business-casual level of dressy (shirt and tie and slacks for a guy, blouse and slacks or a casual dress for a girl)

Poop. I so don't own any dress-up clothes.

A church one?

Is it in a church? I know for my brothers that was in a church we had to dress up. The priest was really adamant about that.

I would go with cords and a nice shirt like a polo or button down shirt. Good luck.

Thanks. I ended up wearing dress-up pants and a slightly dressy shirt. I was the most underdressed person there but not by much, so it was all good.

At least I wasn't the dude wearing the cowboy hat.

Crap, I don't even remember what we wore to ours. I just remember my MIL trying to butt in and tell me how to do things. :)

Every wedding I've been in, the rehearsal has been something like business casual. I would guess that if it's at a country club, it's probably at least what the country club dress code is.

I guess I don't have a good understanding of what "business casual" is. To me, business casual is my corderoy pants and a shirt. Then again, that's actually "dressing up" for me, because I wear things like shorts and t-shirts to work.

Probably something like slacks & a button up shirt. You might actually be able to get away with the cords if you have a button up shirt of some kind.

Yuck. I hate slacks.

Heh. I have to go to one of these silly things tomorrow. I'm just desperately trying to find a dress that isn't sleeveless for the actual wedding itself. To hell with the rehearsal and what I'll wear for that!

Yeah, I just got back from the rehearsal we went to. This is becoming a rather convoluted thing (See my own journal for the occasional comments about construction of the battle huppah)

I totally failed to find any sort of dress to wear that had sleeves. Nothing fit right or looked good. Next time I need to find something nice to wear I'm gonna have to shop for it months in advance! Or hell, I'll just give up and make it myself! At least that way I know I'll like the results and they will fit right.

unfortunately, people expect you to dress up for these things. i "got in trouble" with my parents for wearing khakis and a button down shirt to my sister's wedding rehearsal. i personally think it's utterly ridiculous. you're just rehearsing, right?

Well, that's the thing. I'm doing a reading, not in the wedding party. So I pretty much served no purpose whatsoever at the rehearsal, except that it involved lots of driving and fretting about clothes.

Yuck!

Uhm, I seem to remember you having a rehersal AND rehersal dinner. Goofball. I don't remember what I wore to it, but I remember feeling underdressed. Rehersals where I came from were all pretty informal. In fact, they were bbqs at our house. Hah!

I don't remember dressing up especially for my and A's rehearsal/dinner. After all, we were a bunch of goofy college kids from Maine and we were probably all wearing flannel and mooseheads or something.

p.s. If you don't send me your phone number soon, I will cry.

I'm going to go work and have food now. If after I eat it no longer feels like I have a watermelon stuck in my throat I'll give you a call.

I wasn't. My throat was just doing impersonations.
