We got up to take the kitten to the vet and everything was fine except that he had a whoooole lotta ear mites, which means Parasite Meds for Everyone! (That's pricey.) Good times. Aah, well, at least he's cute.

He's in the big carrier in the middle of the living room right now. Daedalus is whining, and Ralph is staying far, far away. I guess that's better than trying to kill him, but she seems so sad. Breaks my heart. Poor widdle Ralph. We'll probably do a little more carrier, then back in the guest room for Mr. Fin.

Last night I ran to PetCo to get a new litter box, a whole lot of cat litter, a couple of toys, and some Delicious Canned FoodTM of the kitten variety. He only weighs 3.5lbs, and at 3 months, that's on the small side. Of course, D&R are on the big side, so maybe it all balances out. Still, cha-ching!

I'm back to ripping CDs onto iTunes. Maybe if I rip them all I can get them all out of the house. Has anyone done that - put all their CDs on their computer and then got rid of all of the blasted things? Gosh, it would be nice to get them out. So much useless clutter!

[aside]These Magnetic Fields CDs make me think of [livejournal.com profile] crena big time. I sure do miss me some Carina.[/aside]

Here's a cute little avatar that really doesn't look anything like me:

I've been ripping them, but I *also* got a couple of 288 cd binders from the local factory store, and moved all of my cds into that. Now, I had over 500 cds, so I'm not the best 'random sample', but the cd collection WAS taking an entire 5 foot tall bookcase, with 7 shelves set to cd-height, and now it's on 2 shelves (one for the 2 binders, one for cds that had unusual packaging - right now, I just keep a couple empty cd cases around, and can put them back into them if I decide to sell them or such.

Considering how tech changes, and your own prefs, you might not want to get rid of them, as they *are*, sound quality-wise, much better than an mp3, and as things advance, better compression rates might mean you want to have access to the originals. But bindering is a decent (and space saving) compromise.

I have a 100 CD book that I've had since college sometime, and it definitely does take up a lot less space, that's for sure! I guess if I don't decide to get rid of them (most of which I never listen to anyway and forget they existed - Negativland? Arrested Development?) I can definitely go with the binder option.

Thanks!

Where did the avatar come from?

I plan on leaving my cds behind when I go to London - I'll just have to rip/download. Cause I have an absurd amount of cds - here in school I don't have the cases, just three huge books of them, and that's still way too much space/weight to take with me.

Shoot, I can't remember what the site was. Stupid me. (Sorry.)

I hate carrying CDs around almost as much as I hate having them fill up stupid racks and shelves in my house.

I put all mine in the basement, except a little rack of 20 or so. The rack was a gift, and I wanted to use it, and these are the few CDs that are important for some reason. But the bulk of mine are stored.

M has more thane I do, by a long shot, but his CD rack is so stylish and single-purpose that we may as well leave it alone as not.

Yeah, we don't have basement storage, just that deep closet in the guest room. And I guess I could box them up and stuff them in there somehow, but then if/when we move again, I'd just have to end up moving them again.

I dunno. Right now we have these totally crummy CD racks that fall over all the time and the CDs come crashing down - what a huge PITA. Maybe a better rack, or some CD books, are a decent compromise.

I had an amazing music collection on my laptop. Then it was stolen. It's alot easier for a computer to become corupt, or be replaced, than it is to lose 100+ CDs.

Ouch, good point. That totally sucks.

Definitely a good reason to keep those CDs around BIG TIME.

But maybe I can get rid of the ones I don't care for.

I ripped all several hundred of my CDs right before I got my iPod, but I keep the CDs and cases because a) sometimes it's nice to look at the artwork. (even though obviously I never even take the CDs out anymore, so it's not often that I see it) and b) Sometimes the ripping didn't go very well (i.e., pops, hisses, skips) so I need to rerip them and c) if I actually spent the MONEY to buy that CD instead of just downloading it, then I'm keepin that muthafucka!

Well, there are some CDs that I never ever EVER want to get rid of. And then there are some that I don't care if I ever see again. Maybe I should start weeding them out rather than tossing them out altogether.

So far everything I've ripped has been okay. Then again, it's not like I'm trying to listen to them through some fancy sound system, so what do I know?

Speaking of cat food:
Is it just me or is it weird that Grendel likes dried food more than canned?
I've given up on giving her canned food as a "treat" because while she is excited to smell it, she eats it quite slowly.

I don't think it's weird at all, especially since I don't think Grendel had ever even tasted canned food until she came to live with you. :)
