judecorp: (goodbye for now)

We just booked a reasonably-priced trip to New Orleans for the end of the month. WHEE! Now I just need to get the time off from work.

I know we should be saving our tax return money for the babymaking endeavors, but hell, sometimes you just need to spend some money. Neither one of us has ever been to New Orleans, and with them trying to boost tourism after the hurricanes, the time is right! Yay! (Now we just need to figure out how to get to the airport around 5am. I always forget that the stupid T isn't running.)

Also, it's above freezing for the first time in, like, forever. How exciting!!

Yay N'awlins! Yesterday I watched a tv special "Top 20 cities in the world to visit" and N'awlins was the only other American city besides New York City to make it on the list. (London didn't make it at all, and I'm assuming that was because it was a British show...)

Oh, that's exciting. I've never been there, and have no idea what to expect other than what I saw on The Real World that time that the hot Mormon chick was on there.

Hey, what can I say, I remember all the IMPORTANT details. ;)

Well, expect spicy food - cajun and creole. Excellent seafood. The city is a mix of Spanish, French, Haitian, and English influence, and I know creole is a big part of the culture. You'll find things like Voodoo dolls, "alligator eggs" (chocolate), and alligator jerkey.

I went there before the hurricanes, so I'm not sure how much will be the same, but when I went, there were people playing music everywhere- on the street, in music shops themselves, etc. People drink a lot and are usually very friendly.

Go to Bourbon Street - it's the naughtiest street I've ever seen.

It should be an experience, I'm curious what post-Katrina Nawlins is like.

That was pretty much the only Real World that I watched more than one episode of. She was hot, but she annoyed me.

I can't wait. I love going to new places... and we couldn't afford to really go anywhere else. :) I can dig a little spicy food, so that should be good. And voodoo - bring it on. :) I'm excited.

She was a little annoying, but I got over it because she was Mormon. You know how I love those Mormons. Mmmmmmm.

I forgot to mention - the music - jazz/gospel/blues = incredible.

You're going to have a blast!

Well, I only write about the GOOD stuff these days. I could still fill volumes with the stuff that sucks. But no one wants to read that stuff. ;)

I swear to god, I think I ovulated this weekend, too. I should have come down and had sex with Glenn! (But that freaks Jen out.)

Gloria and I got engaged in New Orleans and are dying to go back. Where are you staying?

We're staying at the Baronne Plaza New Orleans. I don't know much about it really except that it is just outside of the French Quarter (hence, cheaper) and is probably mediocre. But more importantly, it is not a chain hotel. :) It's supposedly two blocks from the trolley and half a mile from some good stuff... so I hope I get some good walking in.

You should come along!

We were going to stay here in October, but well, Katrina fixed that good. (and they're finally back open after the hurricane).

Even the mediocre places aren't bad. It's such a cool city - I'm so jealous!! :)

Hot tip for mamas-to-be: They don't let you travel anywhere further than an hour or two away when you're 36 weeks preggo. :| Otherwise...

(Which is why October would've been perfect.)

Fantastic!
Hey, are we on for brunch next weekend?

A bunch of crap has come up re: my dad's house and I'm not sure what my life is looking like next weekend. Jen and I were talking about this in the car tonight. Hopefully I can go to RI on Saturday and thus be free for brunch on Sunday. Otherwise, you might have to entertain Jen for me. Would that be okay?

While we love Jen on her own, we'd love to get to see you both. We can always switch weekends if you need to. The gift certificate expires in 2009, so we have plenty of time. It's up to you, though. I'm sorry about the RI house.

I'll talk to Jen and find out what's going on. I'd hate to have you change your plans, though. I feel kind of like a boob about it.

Hey Jude.

I was TOTALLY thinking that we should get together. I was thinking of that on the way back from RI today. :)

We'll be there from the 31st (of this month) until April 4th. A little long weekend action. You and Cindy should come down and hang out a little bit. If you want, of course.

Look forward to seeing photos.
I'd heard it was crazy hard to get lodging in NOLA. Not anymore, eh?

Every place we looked at had TONS of availability. But that could be because Mardi Gras is all over and stuff. I don't know.

I'll try to take a lot of pictures. I haven't been doing much photography lately. I should work on that.
