Still sick
Oct. 24th, 2001 12:33 pmAnd seeming to get worse instead of better. Of course, the fact that I haven't eaten anything (aside from a few spoonfuls of soup and a lot of popsicles) since lunch on Monday (and lunch consisted of one of those tiny frozen meals that are "low fat" because they contain two bites) is probably impeding this. I am so weak. My head is so heavy. My throat is even MORE swollen after 2 days of Zithromax and now my left ear is throbbing along with it, even though I've been taking 2 advil religiously every 5.5-6 hours. (If anyone knows me, you know I never take pain killers.)
I don't know what I'm going to do. I missed a day of internship today. Tomorrow I have class and my campus job, and in class it's my turn to co-lead the discussion panel on the readings. I can't even talk. My throat is so swollen that my voice sounds like it's covered with Saran Wrap. And I hurt, I hurt, I hurt.
I know I need to eat, but I can't even bear to swallow my own saliva (sorry for the gross out). I've been trying to eat popsicles to numb, but it doesn't help. Ditto for tea and soup. I'm not used to feeling like this. I've NEVER felt like this, let alone for three days.
Does anyone have any suggestions? (I've also been gargling with salt water. Nope. Not helping.)
I wish I had someone here to take care of me, sit a safe distance away at the edge of the bed and read me stories or sing sweetly. *sulk*

Date: 2001-10-24 09:41 am (UTC)Would it help if I bounced (gently) into your lap and purred like a happy little tribble?

Date: 2001-10-24 09:45 am (UTC)Take garlic, goldenseal, and gargle with salt water. Hot tea with chamomile helps ease the pain too.
Also:
I know she said in her post that gargling with salt water isn't helping, but it's a long term thing...you need to do it every 2 hours for a whole day before it really seems to work...but it's working the whole time because it's killing all the little germies in there. And if the Zythromax isn't helping in 48 hours, it ain't gonna, so she should call her Dr and get something different.

Date: 2001-10-24 12:06 pm (UTC)I'm still gargling.
It's been a little more than 24 hours since I started the Zithromax. It SHOULD work. It worked when I had tonsillitis in July!! Ugh.

Date: 2001-10-24 10:00 am (UTC)I offered, hon. I wish it could have been a real offer.

Date: 2001-10-24 12:26 pm (UTC)Ask me and I will play
So sweetly, I'll make you smile
This is my tune for the taking
Take it, don't turn away
I've been waiting all my life
Thinking it over, I've been sad
Thinking it over, I'd be more than glad
To change my ways for the asking
Ask me and I will play
All the love that I hold inside
Feel better.

strep sucks
Date: 2001-10-24 12:48 pm (UTC)aside from antibiotics, i usually drink a few milkshakes..it helps coat/soothe/numb the throat.
also, the ultimate cure-all is hot ribena, but i don't know if you have access to a brit foods store...
if all else fails, curl up with a blanket and a good movie and rest!

Date: 2001-10-24 08:29 pm (UTC)I've also been getting a white grape juice lately - still has the vitamin C and tastes yuuuuummy to boot.
It even feels kinda good to swallow, doesn't hurt my throat as much as drinking cold water. Just don't drink too much of the grape juice too quick or the stomach gets a bit upset.
Oo
Grape Juice
Date: 2001-10-25 03:50 pm (UTC)Thanks for the suggestion, though! The one thing that's really a bummer about juice is how phlegmy it makes me.
Re: Grape Juice
Date: 2001-10-25 06:39 pm (UTC)What's Catholic trauma have to do with grape juice though?
