Did a whole lot of nothing for most of yesterday, including a fruitless and waterlogged trip to Best Buy to try, once again, to spend the silly gift card my mother got my for Christmas. Why she got me a gift card to Best Buy when I don't buy anything at Best Buy and instead sent her three gift suggestions from LL Bean is a mystery to me. (Speaking of LL Bean, is anyone still in contact with Crystal/[livejournal.com profile] being_homeless? She still has my camping sleeping back, has had it for nearly 2 years now, and I want it back.) So yeah, went to Best Buy, saw the same old crap that I have no intentions of buying, and left. (Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] sudrin, I know you have an unholy love for Best Buy. You still love me, right?) Instead, I stopped in at Borders to pick up this month's book club book (The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls; so far really good) so it wasn't a total wash.

In the later evening, I headed out for some conversation with [livejournal.com profile] bostonandrodyke, [livejournal.com profile] livingwithsoul, and their friend, Casey. They drank vodka tonics, I drank water... which was enlightening. Casey talked about his sex life and it was rather entertaining considering I met him moments before and have never met the partner of which he spoke. In vodka veritas, I suppose. =P

I woke up ridiculously early for what time I went to bed, but Jen had to head off to work for a "managers meeting" which is probably some foreign language for "yet another reason why her job sucks." Whyever they all need to get together on the occasional Sunday morning before the store opens is beyond me enough, but then to schedule it when she works the closing shift on Saturday night seems even meaner. (And yes, I know that /someone/ always has to close on Saturday night so someone will get screwed, but it always seems to be those weeks when Jen is the unlucky lady.)

But there is dim sum in our future, so really, how can you go wrong? Perhaps I will take photos of dim summy goodness!

You can trade g/cards on this website. The validity of the trade is dependent on the person on the website. He has good luck with it...

I can relate with the sucky gifts from moms. She means well, but mine gives me "practical" things like WalMart giftcards (we don't shop at WalMart) and Weight Watchers cookbooks I already own. :)

Mmmm, dim sum.

Meh

Well, if we ever get FRY'S here I will break up with Best Buy immediately. Until then, my luv affair with BB is entirely based on the fact that Circuit City is a skanky whore. ;-)

I think a friend of mine is going to buy it off of me. She needs a new DVD player or something.

THANK GOD my mom did not get me a Wal-Mart gift card. I don't even know what I would do.

You should come visit and I will take you to dim sum! :)

Yeah, I want to find a way to contact her by phone. I've tried e-mailing her a bazillion times and I don't know how often she checks her PO Box. (She wasn't always great about doing it when I used to hang with her.) But I appreciate your effort!

I admit cluelessness on these things, but what is wrong with Circuit City? How about CompUSA? Are they bad, too? What is Fry's? Is it a Southern thing?

At least CompUSA has Mac stuff...

Yeah, Fry's is a West Coast chain.. Their stores have pretty much EVERYTHING a growing boy needs. I like CompUSA okay (they have been around forever it seems) but they lack selection in the DVD department. As for Circuit City, I guess its more personal preference than anything. Though I have to admit their DVD selection is usually on par (and sometimes better) than Best Buy.

If you go on her friends list there is a guy who just posted something about her, maybe he can get information for you...
Just a FYI.. (I used to read her journal all the time and then she dropped of the face of the earth, I went to see if anyone knew how she was and that's how I found it) Good Luck!

I tend to avoid all of those stores because they never have anything that I want! I don't buy DVDs because I seldom want to watch a movie more than once... and CDs always end up as clutter (though I do occasionally buy one). I don't but computer software because really I have everything I could ever want, unless they start making new Sims extensions for the Mac. I'm sure I'll end up going into one to buy ink cartridges for my printer or something, but that hardly seems like a pleasure trip. :)

Evil! Remember when we went to BEST BUY to buy a television and you conned me into buying a much bigger one than I wanted and it didn't fit in the car in the box? HA!
