Re: Question
Date: 2006-07-07 01:08 am (UTC)2. Well, it's kind of a long story. The first cats my ex and I ever got were these two littermate kittens that we were told were both girls. (We were told they were 6 weeks old, too. Neither was true.) So we named them "Kali" and "Pandora." After a couple of weeks we realized that they were, erm, sprouting something and were not girls. For a couple of days, they were "Kali with Balls" and "Pandora with Balls." But eventually we named them "Icarus" and "Daedalus." At 6 months old, we had to put Icarus to sleep because he was in kidney failure. :(
We then went to the shelter and adopted a cat because Daedalus was lonely. Her name was Bree. (She came with that name.) They hated each other. Then my younger stepsister had gotten a cat for her daughter, but her landlord found out and said she needed to get rid of the cat. I took the cat home. Her daughter had named the cat "Billie." I chose to name her "Ralph" instead, after Harriet's friend Ralph (also female) in the movie So I Married an Axe Murderer.
My wife had a cat that she named "Grendel." When we merged homes, Grendel and Ralph had big problems... so Grendel went to live with my old coworker
We now also have a kitten named Fin after Ice T's character "Odafin Tutuola" on Law and Order:SVU.
So yeah... that's why. :)
Re: Question
Date: 2006-07-07 04:22 pm (UTC)I named my first cat Bogart, because I was with my ex and we had an hour drive to see each other and had to pass through Bogart, Georgia each time and would bring the cat. We thought it was a funny name for a town, and also, the cat was a pig. Bogarted all food, even grapes and lettuce!
Then came my cat Griffin (Austin Powers at the shelter. . .), who although Griffin is a town in GA, I named for Nick Bantock's Griffin and Sabine books.
Then Beckett (formerly Clevon Little), my first dog, named because I was reading "Waiting for Godot" when I adopted him.
Then Macy (formerly Gwen), originally I named her Marlowe since the first thing she did was eat a book of his plays. Then I remembered a friend had a dog named that, so the next thing she ate was a Macy's shopping back and the rest is history.
Then there's The Noodle. He's really Paul's dog, but I did name him. He's the squattest, longest dog ever. Half Basset, half Rottie. Weird, but cute.
