I am so not jazzed about going to work tomorrow morning - first time since last Tuesday. I could easily never work again and still feel like I accomplished things. I would have the cleanest house in town and all of my laundry would be April Fresh all the time.

We hit up a potluck/cook out at Liz and Matt's place this afternoon. I'm sure it's still going on now as they planned to watch the fireworks together, but I needed to not be in public for a little while. This has been a heck of a weekend in a lot of ways (big argument with Jen, Grandma fell at Uncle Joe's place, the HSG scheduling nightmare) and I just couldn't do any more small talk and happy chat. The company was pleasant but I started to feel like I wasn't - so I bailed, right before Jess entered. Whoops, sorry Jess.

We started looking at houses in Western Mass online again. I daydream about homo-ownership and lawns, gardens and color schemes, mortgages and moving vans. Boston was great to me when I lived here in 1997-1998 but I feel like it hates me this time around. As Liz would say, "Shit sandwich." Jen says it's just bad luck but we're both big believers in karma so sometimes I don't know what to think. What are we doing wrong to the Universe? Like I don't have enough guilt. ;)

Fireworks should be starting in about an hour. Thank goodness for television. I love going to live fireworks displays but I can't for the life of me understand why Boston insists on having them late at night on the 4th when you have to go back to work in the morning. Columbus always does their big show on the 3rd. That makes much more sense to me.

You're serious about fireworks on the 3rd making much more sense to you?!?!

We're celebrating the **4TH** of July! This is one of the reasons that Boston kicks ass!

Yeah, I'm serious. We would have fireworks around 11pm and they would end a little before midnight and it would practically "ring in" the 4th. Then it became a nice day for sleeping in, having cook-outs, seeing friends, and celebrating independence from England if you are so inclined.

It just sucks that I feel like I can't go to the fireworks live (which I would really like to do) because I would get home too late for work. And that rots.

I know that we are both old fogies now but, if we really put our minds to it, I'm sure we could stay out late and still drag ourselves into work the next day.

Dude, do you know how much energy it takes to be running after infants and toddlers all day? You have to be ALL UP ALL THE TIME. If you're so much as in a bad mood, you're totally effed.

It's the suckiest part of my job... the fact that when you're just not feeling it, you have to LIE LIKE CRAZY. ;)

On the 3rd? Really? I've never heard of that before.

A few years ago, it rained really hard on the fourth and some of the fireworks shows around Canton were canceled and they had them on the 5th instead. I only remember this because one of my best friends got married on the 5th, and some of us went after her reception. It still felt weird, though, because it wasn't THE FOURTH.

In any event, I really don't like fireworks at all.

Yeah, Columbus always has this big festival downtown (well it's not really a festival but there is music and food vendors are often plentiful) called Red, White, and Boom that takes place late at night on the 3rd of July. Tons and tons of people go, and they spend big bucks on fireworks. It's a good time. At least, I always thought so.
