Today has been a fairly productive day, on the Jude end of things. I got a whole big cycle of dishes run through and cleaned the kitchen counters. (Why do I clean the counters when I don't do any cooking?) All of my thick socks for stompy shoes are starting to get holey, so I went to get more. Whee. Fun - reading about sock shopping in my LJ. I had some birthday cash, and decided to indulge in my favorite past time - book shopping. I got great stuff:

- Scattered Poems, Jack Kerouac
- From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, E. L. Konigsburg
- Verses That Hurt: Pleasure and Pain from the Poemfone Poets, Edited by Jordan & Amy Trachtenberg
- The Complete Hothead Paisan: Homicidal Lesbian Terrorist, Diane DiMassa

(The first is just a tiny little leaflet of a book, the second was one of my favorites in grammar school - I'm trying to start collecting the books I loved as a child for my own children, the third is an AMAZING collection of amazing poems I stumbled across at Half-Price Books, and the last I read ages ago but hadhadHAD to own after I got it for [livejournal.com profile] noog's birthday.)

I also got the thing I've been wanting to get for the Princess ever since we started becoming better friends, and one impulse Princess purchase that I hope is appreciated. I then spent the next 2 hours or so being sweet and creative and giddy as I worked on the Princess present. Weeeeeeee *bleep*! I think it will be /very/ well received. I hope. I hope.

I need to get groceries, and I should probably do homework. But I have all of these lovely books, plus the two Princess got me for my birthday, plus the one I never finished over my last break, and they are all calling my name. Sigh.

Last night, I had the high privilege and the distinct honor of meeting [livejournal.com profile] khaosworks! It was SO much fun! So much. It was an absolutely wonderful way to celebrate my renewed health. (It's been an AMAZING turnaround with the right antibiotics. Check out last night's webcam picture and stare in amazement as you think, 'THIS girl went to the Emergency Room unable to swallow the day before this photo??') Terence is an absolutely wonderful person, and he amused me and [livejournal.com profile] binkiegirl with filkishness and hugs and good conversation and good food (and I ate a HUGE meal, oh my goodness, I have SO been missing food!) and we sang Dar songs and it was lovely, lovely, lovely. I called Princess from the bathroom when I was waiting for Bink and her exuberant, "You sound PERFECT!" completely reaffirmed how wonderful and healthy I was feeling.

I was the picture of health, youth, and promise - everything I have been becoming since things started unravelling in July. I was so trendy, which is unusual for me - happenin' retro polyester shirt over tank top that is now saucily too big, big baggy legged tan jeans that made swish noises, stompy black Docs, and the hair - the hair was perfectly brushed under, with 3 randomly placed metal and glitter butterflies. Tres cute.

So thank you, Terence, and thank you, Bink, for sharing my good fortune and my improving health with me. And thank you, Princess, for reawakening my creativity this afternoon. And thank you, Dar, for giving me beautiful things to sing.

Yaay, I love EL Koningsburg. I was just talking about her yesterday. A Proud Taste of Scarlet and Miniver was always my favorite though. I didn't like the movie too much of From the Mixed-Up Files but I can trace my obsession with curtained-off boxed beds to that book!

I never saw the "From the Mixed Up Files" movie, so I have nooooo idea. But somehow the idea of two kids running away to a museum seems /right/ up your alley, Mommy!
