2ww

The 2ww (two week wait) has begun and I'm already overanalyzing. My current obsession is that even though we did IUIs at 12 and 37ish hours, we missed O. I'm starting to get in my head that I haven't O'd yet. My cervix is still really soft and high and feels open, and I have been simply /covered/ in EWCM all day and evening. Gobs and gobs of it, more than I've ever seen come out of or live in my body before. I know that some CM gets knocked around during the IUI and can come out, but this is a LOT and feels fresh. I'm trying not to think about it. I also keep telling myself that it's silly to think that the cervix shuts up tight right away (even though I know it kind of does).

So now I sit around and hope for a nice temp rise tomorrow, but I'm stuck thinking about how long those frozen swimmers really last up in there if there's no nice, friendly eggs there waiting for them. But there's absolutely nothing I can do about that now except wait the two weeks and see what happens.

Also, the Cleaning Machine has commenced. The guest room and the bathroom are completely done, and I think once Jen finishes the vacuuming our bedroom, the dining room, and the office will be done. I'm pretty sure all that's left is the kitchen floor and to vacuum out the couch. Good times. Boy are we sweaty, but the house looks damned good.

I'm so glad you're back! Your positive thinking is always a bright light in my day! :)

And yes, I am a queen of overthinking.

Yeah, but you were using fresh, non-washed sperm. We're using frozen sperm that's gone through an IUI-washing process, so its lifespan is like a handful of hours in the uterus.

oooooh. i didn't know the lifespan of frozen sperm was different! that's sucky :\

From: [identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com
Yeah, whenever you do anything to sperm you sort of cut its lifespan down. Freezing it and thawing it definitely damages the sperm and makes it die sooner. But it's the IUI wash that really cuts the life down, because it washes out all of the seminal fluid that feeds the sperm and all of that, so that only the actual sperm end up in the uterus.

Fresh, unprocessed sperm can live for up to 5 days, I've heard.

why is the iui wash necessary then?

Date: 2006-08-21 02:31 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com
Because you can't put all of the semen stuff directly into the uterus, only the sperm. (When it happens au naturel, the semen all goes to the cervical area but only the sperm moves its way through the cervix.) IUIs bypass the semen and drop the goo directly into the uterus (less work it has to do), so only the sperm can be in there. The other stuff in the semen can cause cramping and all kinds of other stuff if it gets plopped into the ute.

I know where you are. I have been there. But hang in there. It is not over until it is over. And it is what it is. I still feel incredibly positive about this try.

I still definitely feel like this is the best try we have had so far. I haven't had any reason other than cervical openness and gross quantities of CM to think that I O'd sometime this evening (no O pain or anything), so I will blissfully imagine that I O'd this morning or early this afternoon when I was still full of good swimmers.

All I can do now is wait and hope. I'm good at hoping. It's the waiting that, eh, I could use some work on. ;)

p.s. Thank you.

I am pretty sure that I ovulated at least a day after my last IUI, the one where I got pregnant. I had tons of EWCM after the procedure too, and I was worried. But don't forget, lots of EWCM is a really good sign!

FX!

Yeah, but did you do the deed with your husband after your last IUI? Because, well, we don't have that kind of option.

I know that lots of EWCM is a good sign, and it must be the injects because I have had quite a bit in the last several days, but this afternoon I was positively SWIMMING in it... like I felt like I kept wetting my pants. It was INSANE. I hope it just got all knocked around by the catheter and whatnot.

I just wish I knew for sure how long those previously-frozen IUI-washed little dudes can live! But in the meantime I will just hang in there!

Nope, we didn't DTD afterward on either IUI. They actually told us it would be more beneficial to do it before. I always felt like I should but I would feel so crampy after the IUI that I never did. Plus it kinda feels like you've already taken your best "shot" for that cycle anyway. I know couples with a live-in sperm donor have the advantage here, but when you've been married as long as we have (8 years), you don't take advantage of it as much as you maybe could!

Well, it certainly sounds like the meds worked for you! It all sounds good. Can't wait to find out if it worked!

Well let me tell you, we don't take advantage of it as often as we could either. ;)

The meds definitely worked! I would have liked one more follicle, but I'm happy with the two I had and the copious amounts of EWCM. (Seriously, it was pouring out of me.)

Sperm Longevity Testing
Sperm after washing and removal of seminal plasma are cultured for extended period of time. The motility of spermatozoa is checked after 24 hours. A normal result is encountered when > 70% of the sperms are alive and moving at 24 hours.

Yeah, but I don't think they really live that long. My doctor says that some sperm might live 24 hours but most will die before 12 hours, especially frozen. Every doctor says something different, but I just don't want to get my hopes up... most say within 6 hours is the best chance!

Thanks for looking that up for me!

Remember, sperm can live in EWCM for up to five days! So if they did the IUI a little early it's okay :) It'd be late that would be a problem.

Sperm can live in EWCM in the cervix for up to five days. But previously-frozen, IUI-washed sperm (with all of the semen washed out) injected directly into the uterus lasts somewhere between 6 and 12 hours at a maximum.
