Obsolescence

During our visit with my grandparents today, my grandfather used the word "obsolescence" in conversation. It was pretty awesome to hear my 88.5-year-old grandfather bust out the Jeopardy! word, you know?
I always think of myself as coming from good old fashioned generic working class stock, but then I hear my grandfather use a word like "obsolescence" and realize just how much academic privilege I carry around. I mean, sure, I always knew that my family had a HUGE focus on education, but it just really struck me how freaking knowledgable my gene pool is. And I love it.

In other News of the Nerdy, Joey came over last night late to play a little Scrabble and I got to make a freaking seven letter word. I don't think I've ever done that. It felt pretty damned awesome.

We had an evening stop in Quincy to see
gala and
hoo to say Happy 30th to
gala and of course steal a little love from Baby Veronica, who was clearly DONE WITH PEOPLE (doing the little baby turn-as-far-away-as-possible thing) by the time I came in. Drat to us for being late. But the evening was totally groovy++++ because not only did I get to chat with Brian about Philmont, but I also got to hear
hoo's mum tell a story about a time she pulled a really long grey hair out of an old lady's neck by accident (she thought it was not attached) during a formal tea. Dear lord, I almost peed myself.
I hadn't seen
hoo's mum in a billion years, since sometime in the mid90s, and she is still one of the warmest, most charming women ever. I just adore her. And I don't even mind that
hoo used the promise of his mum to lure me to his house!
