Oh my god, I don't know if I've ever willingly lived in such a pit in all of my life. We can't even really do much in the way of unpacking until we get all of the furniture together so we have somewhere to PUT it all. Argh! I suppose I need to start on some of the hanging clothes, at least, just to get some of the boxes out of the way. Or maybe the kitchen. But I have no idea where we're planning to put stuff, except on this new big table thing we bought for the kitchen that will probably be a lifesaver in terms of storing pots and pans.

We drove down to New Haven (gah, what a pit) to spend far too much money at IKEA. I mean, the amount scares me a little bit. But not too much to not peek at baby furniture for, you know, sometime. But I've never spent 4digits at a store before. We managed to score a couch, a coffee table, that thing for the kitchen, and an entire bedroom set, among other things. Now we just have to put all the frickin' things together. After they are delivered, of course. (We had to deliver the couch, and then we learned that it is the same price for up to 15 items, so umm, yeah, we told them to pretty much take all of it.)

It's kind of fun living out in the country but I really need to get cracking with the job search. I probably should wait until we have real, reliable internet (no offense, Jim) but I need to get on that ASAP. Being a grownup is HARD!

I know most of you are all back at work today, so I will think of you while I lounge around the house. In my mess of boxes and piles and disaster.

p.s. Is everyone getting LJ comments e-mailed to them? Is it just me who is not?

i seem to be getting my comments. so maybe it's just you or your area?

being a grown up IS hard, especially when you have to do things like look for a job when all you want to do is lie around and sleep. do you have any idea of what's out in that area as far as social work jobs? do you want to do children's services or just about anything?

how much 'in the country' are you?

we bought simon's crib (now greta's) at ikea. love it. not only was it CHEAP, it's very spare-looking and not overdone, like most cribs are. i love their baby stuff!

i haaaaaaate the part of moving that includes living out of boxes. if i lived by you i would come and organize your kitchen. i rock at organizing kitchens. heck, i'd spend all day helping you unpack. oh well. :) try to get the clothes hung today. one thing at a time and you will feel so much better. is the house pretty clean otherwise? i mean, did the previous owners leave it clean for you guys?

I see. You are getting comments. I shall commence taking it personally. (Kidding.)

As for social work jobs, I don't really know. There isn't a heck of a lot in the paper right now (well, the paper online). I am thinking of just sending my resume to a couple of the big social service agencies to start - and I will hear about that temp Office Manager job at UMass sometime this week, I think. I am also considering doing the temp agency thing since I will be stopping working again for a while in the summer.

I am a big fan of IKEA for the CHEAP. And yes, their cribs are spartan and wonderful and I love them.

I hung some clothes today from the wardrobe boxes, and more importantly, I put the laundry hampers in the closet and dumped the laundry in them instead of in piles on the bedroom floor. I feel loads better already, at least in the bedroom. And yeah, the house itself is fairly clean. I wiped the cabinet shelves and Jen cleaned the fridge and I cleaned the front of the stove... so that's SOMETHING.

yes. lj hates you.

i love the cheap of ikea! and a lot of the design, as well. it's a good thing you can find cheap cribs b/c you will need TWO!!!!!

yay! keep up the good work! after a nap, that is.

Heh. I plan to let them sleep together as long as I can! I also was going to do the co-sleep thing but I don't have the first clue how that would work with two!

Maybe they will sleep in shoeboxes. :)

oh totally, but at some point they'll be too big for one crib.

no room! we only have a queen!

i couldn't co-sleep. i kept waking up and it sucked too badly. having the baby right next to the bed was easier for me. then i did the crib. but i'm a sucky sleeper.

anyways, you CAN'T come sleep in my bed b/c the babies will need you, silly. :D

I think that there's come kind of little bed that can attach onto the side of a regular bed for co-sleeping. I don't know if that would work for two or if it would work at all with the cats, but maybe that would be helpful.

Re: working backwards..

Date: 2006-11-29 01:45 pm (UTC)

Yeah, that was the original plan (to get a co-sleeper), but I don't know how it would work with two - like would we need two of them? Would the cats end up sleeping in it? Etc.

We will still check it out, though.

There's an IKEA in New Haven? This will have to go on my "pros" list if I get into Yale for next year.

Congrats on the new house!

I have no idea. I never saw anything posted for it or referring to it on LJ's maintenance or status page. I switched email addresses trying to diagnose it, but that didn't change anything, so it wasn't a SPAM deal. I dunno.

Are you at least seeing the posts on your friends page? One particular friend of mine is randomly not showing up on the friends page.

I determined a long time ago that the LJ people just can't program their way out of a paper bag. This doesn't surprise me.

I don't know if any of my friends are missing. I haven't checked.

I think LJ just has too many users.

Homeownership is hard, you're right. I hate moving and packing and unpacking. It makes me cry. Every time I move, I have a big cry right about the time I'm finding that I don't have as much space as I thought for all my dishes.

And then after that, I realize that 'hey, this is MY house and I can put stuff wherever the hell I want and paint whatever color I want and it rocks.' Someday, my dear pregnant and exhausted friend, you'll look back and go "wow, I love being a homeowner." Until then, take a lot of naps. That's how I deal.

I am excited to have THE HOUSE. And I'm sure I will be more excited once I've settled in and can put stuff away, and the furnace repair is done and the dishwasher and w/d are installed and the walls are painted and all the services are set up. But right now feels like it's all about a million phone calls and a million boxes that can't go anywhere. Oh, and needing to find a job ASAP.

I'm not much of a cryer, but I bet I will get there if I don't find a job soon and the savings continues in its downward direction. Heh.

Isn't moving fun?

When will you have another check on the babies? How many weeks along are you now & what is your due date? Will you find out the sexes?

Date: 2006-11-27 08:31 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com
Ugh, I am not a fan of moving. I don't like not knowing where my things are!

My next prenatal appt (first one with midwife!) is on 12-12. I called today to tell them I was having twins to make sure they don't want to see me sooner, and they don't (drat!) but did call in a prescription for additional folic acid. Great, more pills.

We'll be 9w on Wednesday but at all of my u/s I was measuring a little behind. Our official due date is 4th of July but my RE says I should be ready for kids by mid-June. And yes, we will find out the sexes.

I can't wait for your next appointment! 12/12 seems so far away. I hope it goes well and you like the people working there. At least at your next appointment you'll be almost past your first trimester!!

No I am not getting comments either, and I keep getting database errors. I think it's messed up today.

Anyway, I wanted to say ... I've never spent four digits buying stuff either! What a way to think about it...Not even our bed cost that much (I don't think -- I think it was still under a grand).

Looking forward to pictures (hint hint)

I haven't gotten comments in several days, even before I moved (so it can't be Jim's fault). Silly LJ. I am going to get so spammed later.

Yeah, I've never bought one thing that cost so much (except for a house and a car) - even when we ordered sperm I think we kept it under $1000 at a time. (Though maybe not.) At least for the amount of money we spent we got about 9 pieces of furniture and a really neat shelving system!

When I find and unpack my camera, and my own internet gets installed, and some of the boxes go away, I will post pictures, I promise!

Date: 2006-11-27 04:33 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bec4joy.livejournal.com
We get ours mailed to us.. maybe it is JIM's fault.. LOL..

So when is your next checkup? Inquiring Minds want to know.. Did you post pitures of your new house?

From: [identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com
I can't blame Jim because it started before I moved! It must be the LJ cluster that I am on or something.

My next appointment is 12-12 - first one with a midwife instead of a fertility doc! YAY! I called today to see if I should be doing anything differently with twins and they called in a prescription for more folic acid.

No pictures of the house yet - it is a disaster and I can't find the camera!

How exciting!! Both the IKEA score and just being in your very own home, finally! It's all coming together, Jude...the house in the country, the baby, the girl...you've got it all! I have to admit I was kind of jealous when you said you would think of those of us who are back at work until I read the last half about being surrounded by boxes and mess. That's tough stuff, and then add a job hunt to it also?! I feel for you. So, you just take it as easy as possible and do what you can day by day. It's all going to come together beautifully. I'm THRILLED for you!

Date: 2006-11-29 01:39 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com
Well, I have been very lax on the job hunt and really need to step it up. It's hard with unreliable internet, but our internet doesn't get installed until Friday afternoon. Think good job thoughts for me! It's hard to concentrate on job hunting when I'm so paranoid about bleeding and pregnancy and all of that. Ugh, one day at a time.

Thanks for all of your happiness! I am very happy to be in a house with my girl and our kittycats!
