Yesterday was a complete and total fiasco in terms of furniture delivery. Oh dear, am I ever stabby.

Delivery was arranged for Monday between 12 and 4. I hate large windows of time because you're essentially paralyzed by this "we can show up anytime" situation and for most of the afternoon I was scared to take a shower or anything because you just KNOW that is the minute they come a-knockin'.

By 3:15 I was a little antsy so I figured I would call and see what's up. Dude at the shipping company said that the truck had gone out no problem, and my stuff would be here "by 4, maybe a little atfer." At 4:20, no truck, I call again. While I'm on the phone with Dude, he two-ways the truck driver. I hear the conversation. The truck driver says he is in Manchester about to make a delivery and will be at my house "4:30-5." At this point I tell Dude there is NO WAY it is going down like that, because it is 4:20 already, but whatever. I tell this to Jen (we were supposed to meet around 4 to do some shopping) and she Mapquests the distance from Manchester to us and it is 40something miles. So no way.

At 5:15 I call back and the guy is unable to two-way the driver. He says he will call me back and for whatever reason it goes straight to voicemail and the message says that he GPSed the driver and he will be at my house at 6:18. I call the shipping company (not Dude) and register a complaint.

At 6:40 the truck shows up and the guys start unloading our packages. And one is missing. The frickin' head and foot boards of the bed. I am so frickin' tired of sleeping on the dang floor! So the guys leave and we call IKEA customer service immediately, and they take a claim and tell me someone will get back to me in TWO TO THREE BUSINESS DAYS. I rant at her for a little while about how this is totally unacceptable and she asks if there's anything else she can do to help and I ask her where she lives because I am coming to sleep in her bed. She is not amused and I get off the phone.

I am livid. Not only does our stuff arrive over 2.5 hours PAST the end time of their window (oh, and customer service said the window is just "a courtesy" to which I say bollocks because if WE had been late or not home, they would have charged us an assload of money), but now there is a missing item that no one will even SPEAK to me about for 2-3 business days.

I am seriously going to stab all of these people. We ended up going grocery shopping at 8pm, no Target, no Best Buy, no house shopping - just a quick grocery trip before the frickin' store closed. How infuriating.

Seriously. Stab someone. It's completely justified.

Will they refund you some of the money for not having the complete order?

Yesterday, I had to wait for Safeway. They arrived at the end of their window - which is fine. Except I totally had to poo and couldn't until they left.

See, that is what I'm talking about. It's not right that you are paralyzed by fear and unable to poop because that is when they will show up! We have the right to poop and shower in peace!

I can SOOO relate to this (in a way)! We bought furniture back in July, arrived end of Aug (special orders), 3 of the 4 pieces were damaged. Waited another 8 weeks for two of the three pieces to be replaced, one is still unacceptable, still waiting 11 weeks later for leather chair to arrive, have to wait 4 weeks for replacement ottoman that was delivered, damaged, replaced and reordered again..

I HATE FURNITURE STORES!!! I'll never do special orders again. If I can't find what I want I won't buy it!

Good luck on the house. I've been a homeowner for 3 yrs now and I thought with a brand new house there wouldn't be so much $$ involved...HA!!!! But I love owning a home! =)

Did you buy from Levenger because that totally sounds like my old job....

Don't know Levenger! This is a company called Raymour & Flanigan (I think headquarted in Syracuse). This last incident with the ottoman being wrong (again) and waiting 6 weeks for it only to still not have it right is annoying the hell out of me!!! They would only be willing to give me 10% off price. NO WAY! I paid over $300 for that ottoman, to only accept 10% off would not take away my weeks and months of frustration. And of course you know they are sending the bills and we've got to pay on all of this damaged furniture regardless. Thankfully we don't have to have it paid off until Jan 2009 but still. I'm beyond angry about this whole situation!!!

Oh my god, that is AWFUL. I would have bought a gun by that point. (Mind you, I am a total pacifist.) Gah.

I've got an extremely short temper and it has been SOOOOO hard to not let it just fly out the window about this when I've talked to everyone on the phone regarding this fiasco! At this point if I cancel everything and have them come and get the stuff I am out almost $1000! They will not refund my deposit plus the 2 payments I've made so far so I'm stuck! PISSES ME OFF! So help me God if there is anything wrong with the replacement leather chair I'm going to murder someone!

Can ya tell I'm annoyed??? =(

I would be really annoyed, too. I wish there was some sort of respect or niceness or something to accomodate spending a lot of money. This is why I hate spending money.

This is why you absolutely must (and I do mean MUST) put everything on a credit card, including the deposit. If everything (and I do mean EVERYTHING) is not to your satisfaction 50 days from when you first give them money, you open a dispute with the credit card company. It must be within 60 days or you might lose the right to the dispute, so keep that in mind. If everything gets resolved, drop the dispute. If it doesn't, force the issue. Merchants hate chargebacks.

Yeah yeah yeah! I learned my lesson after my parents razzed me about doing this very thing! I never made a huge purchase like this before other than the house and a car so I was a furniture virgin!

Oh I love that icon!

I wish I wasn't such a punctual person. Then maybe I wouldn't care if things were late. But dang it, I PAID for that!

I have heard nothing but bad things about IKEA's shipping and customer service. Ugh.

Yeah, I'd never dealt with either because I've always done the whole cash-and-carry thing... and we could have taken most of it in the Matrix but not the couch and not the king-sized head and foot boards (they don't break down)... so if you're going to pay an exorbitant shipping charge that counts for up to 15 pieces, you just end up saying "Okay, take it all." And the irony is that the one thing that didn't show is one of the two things we actually NEEDED delivery for.

A friend of mine almost got screwed by IKEA delivery once. He saw the truck drive by his house (did not stop) and then called into the company and they said they tried to deliver and he wasn't home! So he ran and caught the truck and made them deliver his furniture.

I have a letter cooking in my brain already. Perhaps I need some lawyerese.

Remember, people are flammable. They don't conduct heat so well, but they will burn.

Oh, they will PAY. (And burn!)

Yeah, I am supposed to get the headboard for my bed on MONDAY. Thanks, guys.

When she asked me if I was available on Monday for delivery, I told her a lie. "Do I have to take /another/ day off work?" She was like, "Oh, sorry."

Jerks.
