We had our first Jehovah's Witness this morning! He rang the doorbell in his nice suit with his Bible and pamphlets and I said, "No, thank you." I think I shall e-mail Coworker Dorcas and tell her that HER PEOPLE have come to see me. :) I feel like we had some sort of rite of passage. First JWs!

We are starting to have furniture and it is a nice change. Jen put together the coffee table and we put the couch in its rightful place and put the couch cover on it. Then she started working on putting our shelving unit together. While she did this, I gave our pellet stove a trial run and it is quite awesome. I had it on a low setting and it made our living room a toasty 71°. Nice. It seems to use quite a bit of electricity (the pellet feeder, the combustion blower, the distribution blower) so I'm not sure how efficient it is - I've heard pellet stoves are very efficient so I guess I was surprised at how much electric power it uses. Probably less than the whole forced air heating system, though. My only complaint is that it's very well contained so you don't get that lovely wood fire smell. Aah well. I envision lots of cold winter nights in front of the stove while watching television, since we will have no money for anything else. :)

Speaking of television, our cable dude isn't coming until Friday. Is there anyone local who watches Survivor who wants us to come over tomorrow and totally harass you? We can't really download the episode because of the limits of Jim.

I am going to tour this pediatric nursing care facility somewhere in town about a potential job. I honestly think the work would be depressing and crazy but that's kind of how I felt when I was going to interview at the homeless shelter and I ended up loving that. So what the heck, I'll go check it out. Maybe Friday morning before the cable guy.

Awwh, you're sweet. We'll probably download it from the internet today now that we're done with Jim. :)

Can you run the stove without the dist. blower, just let the heat radiate? I saw it plugged in, but didn't realize it took THAT Much electricity.

The way it's designed, it doesn't really radiate like a traditional stove insert. It's really rather interesting.

I'm assuming that since it's a regular plug/outlet that the power isn't TOO bad...

Good luck on the job hunt. Will you both work after the babies come?

Unless one of us wins the lottery, yes. Although we'd like to be able to take some time off.

You know you're a homeowner when the evangelists start showing up. I actually refer the Mormons, because they are always very very pretty and young and polite and pretty. I've often thought about askng them in to do chores around the house.

I have a serious Mormon fetish. It's pretty ridiculous. There aren't really a lot of Mormons in this part of the country, although for a while when I was in grad school in Boston, there were 6 missionaries who lived in the apartment upstairs from me. They were impressed with my keen knowledge of LDS stuff. And I baked them cookies. :)

But yes, they always are quite attractive, aren't they? :)

ooops. I don't actually "refer" the Mormons, but rather "prefer" the Mormans.

Feel free to "refer" them to my anytime! :)

I always invite them in and ask if they know Isis. Of course the answer is no and they never seem to hang around for long when I start telling them of my pagan ways. Anyway Long time fertility friend survivor added you to my friends list here. Congrats on the twins.

If it's a friend, I usually am incredibly interested in what they have to say. I love learning about other people's beliefs! One of my coworkers is a JW and she is very good about my ridiculous questions. Similarly I used to have a couple of good friends who were Mormon who answered EVERYTHING I ever wanted to know... then a few years later someone commented that I knew more about the LDS Church than most LDS folks! :)

Thanks for the congrats. What's your name on FF? I love finding out that I know people in different circles on the internet!

It took about two years before we got our first JW -- and then we got another one last month? The DH accepted literature from them so I expect them back any day now.

Yeah, once you show some interest they keep coming back. I try to stick with my polite "No thank you." He was nice, though, and not at all pushy which I appreciate. I told him I couldn't talk because I was in my pajamas and he told me to have a nice day. :)
