I am such a Posty McPosterson tonight, probably because Jen is watching Van Helsing, in which I have no interest. (We are PAYING for this!??!)

Anyway, Jen and I went on a wild goose chase all over Springfield (Home Depot), Easthampton (local hardware store) and Holyoke (Petco) to find a pet door to put into the door to the basement so we can keep the litter boxes down there without compromising heat to the basement.

Home Depot only had L and XL for dogs (60+ lbs.). Local hardware store had nothing. Petco had an assortment of pet doors - the cat doors were far too tiny for Big Daedalus (a whopping 20lbs), and the dog doors were totally whacked sizes with a small being up to 12 lbs and the medium being up to 40lbs. The medium was so big a small child could crawl through, while the small would squeeze my manly beastie.

A little searching online and we have ordered the Ideal Hefty Cat Door. *snicker* For cats of superior girth. Perfect size for my big boy!

It reminded me a little bit of when my grandmother always wanted to buy me "Huskies" pants when I was a kid. Poor Daedalus. Hefty Cat.

We ordered this one (but from a cheaper site): http://www.moorepet.com/Ideal-Hefty-Cat-Flap-p/ideal-heftycat-mps.htm

I love that it says it's for the 'generous' cat!

Heat rises, so a hole into the basement isn't a big deal. We have a fat cat so we have a 7"x7" hole in our basement door for him. We had a swinging door (Mike built it custom) but it made a racket whenever the cats would go through it, and also one cat didn't like it, so we took it out. I didn't even know they made hefty cat doors. ;-)

Well, right now we have the messed-up furnace system, where the only cold air return in the house is in the basement (it's not attached to a duct that goes anywhere in the house, which is a problem) so it creates a HUGE suction mess when the furnace is on. But you're right about heat rising, we didn't really think of that.

You can get a hefty cat door here: http://www.moorepet.com/Ideal-Hefty-Cat-Flap-p/ideal-heftycat-mps.htm.

Lord, what about skunks?

Well, this door will go from the upstairs to the basement, so hopefully there are no skunks in the basement!

It's just so we can keep the food and litter down there without it being all in our faces.

I totally agree. Our big man is about 20lbs and while he is a little "large and in charge," he is also a BIG cat. I think if he was "thin" he would weigh about 15lbs. But he is SO WARM in the winter... and as long as he can still jump up to the kitchen counters, I'm not worried. We do get a lot of crap from vets about him being obese, though. Poor guy.

Who could resist?

All I could say about the movie when I would glance at it was, "Dang, Jen, this movie has a lot of ponytails."

Haha, I love hefty cats. Our Simon frequently forgets his bulk and barely makes the leap from the floor onto the couch. It makes me laugh every time.

Cats are so awesome, especially those of "generous" size.

I miss Ezra.

Eh, it didn't do it for me (and corsets usually do). Now Kate Winslet (whom I do not usually like) in Quills, however...

Yuck! Husky pants! I hated them. Fortunately, by the time that my butt and hips were too large for regular pants, I was old enough to be wearing adult pants, anyhow. And it was totally because of my butt and hips. As thick as my thighs could be, they weren't the problem. Wonder why my butt and hips were always the problem?

I don't think I ever actually owned any, but my grandmother would always threaten me with them when we went shopping. I don't remember being a terribly chubby kid, but I was so short that the pants that fit my height wouldn't work AT ALL.

Yeah, that was the other problem I had.

Long-waisted = short in the legs = harder to get pants that fit right.

But that would be easier to believe if my calves and thighs were getting squeezed, too. But it was only the butt and the hips. As if they were abnormally big for a young boy or something.

Discovering relaxed-fit jeans as an adult relieved the need for jeans in a waist size 4 inches bigger than my actual waist size, too. Again, thanks to butt and hips.

I agree - relaxed fit jeans really were a sensible idea. I'm glad someone invented them. :) And besides, who likes skin-tight jeans?
