Benefits orientation
Dec. 26th, 2006 02:08 pmWell, this morning was a cosmic waste of time. I had to go to a benefits orientation at the university. And it was blah blah blah form blah blah insurance blah blah blah... all words. But the funniest part was that I am a benefitted employee, but temporary... so I will only have this job for 6 months. Well, some of the benefits take 6 months to kick in! For example, I'm eligible for free dental insurance... on July 1. But my last day at this job is June 30! Ha ha ha ha ha.
I ended up not signing up for anything or even considering it. I could get health insurance in March but then I'd have to switch back to Jen's again in July and that is just so confusing and sound like a recipe for disaster. We'll just do what we've set up and revisit it if I end up in some sort of permanent, full-time position for next fiscal year. I ended up taking the life insurance since it's like $1/month and hey, you never know.
I got my little temporary parking permit for my first month of work. Once I get a paycheck and a school ID and all that other crap, I have to go buy a real one. Good times. I'd forgotten how working at or attending a university is such a hassle to start. Further reason why I need to just be there forever, I guess.

In less than one week, it will be 2007 - the year we become parents!
