Five years ago today

Five years ago today, we began as two friends who share a birthday and who were about to share a little road trip for some New Year's fun. By the time the night was nearing morning, we had shared a rooftop kiss on the Delaware shore.

Today we are two friends who share a birthday, an anniversary, a marriage license, a home, some cats, a child-to-be, and an amazing love.

I knew that I loved you the first time you got into my car.
Your cheeks were flushed, and I felt a hush come over me in the dark.
I got us lost, but at the next cross, you said, "I don't care where we are. I'm in the right car."

Hey Jude! Congratulations from one half of the other couple who met on that fateful New Year's weekend! Okay, I'll admit it... I've been reading your posts for the past couple of months after I stumbled on to it and am awed at your gift for writing so openly and honestly. Oh my god, just knowing you are out there makes me so happy! Do you know how much I miss you? Happy five years to you and Kerry, too - I always think of you guys when I think of us around this time. You two are great and totally deserve each other.

Oh -- fun trivia. When I saw Catie Curtis play at the Clearwater Festival, it was the year same sex marriages were made legal in a couple cities and states, and she intro'd this song saying that she'd said she'd come play it for the first couple who asked her to at their wedding. She was asked pretty promptly and described it as "I cried, they cried -- it was just beautiful."

It's a sweet memory -- she seems to be such a kind person.
