I have survived another day of entering books into a database at work. I think I have done 780 books so far, with an estimated 500 to go. Maybe more. I have a hard time eyeballing these sorts of things. There are a lot. I can't really do more than 100/day because I start to go ballistic. It's slow going. Title. Authors. Publisher. City. Date. Genre. etc. It's maddening. Not to mention that I haul the books down off the shelves, bring them to my desk, type them, haul them back.

I suppose this is better for my body than running around after sick toddlers but I really need to get some sort of stimulation outside of typing books. Hopefully when the students return they can do the majority of the book typing and I can explore other opportunities. Or something.

I got a paycheck from my first 4 days of work and let's just say it was dismal. It's tough to take a $3/hr pay cut AND drop to 3/4 time. Hopefully something good comes out of all of this because right now it's just stressful. Blah.

Is it the weekend yet?

Yup it is for me! I'm done playing in the ice and hopefully by the time I return on Sunday the ice will be gone.

Sorry you have to heft books. That's not a good thing to do while preggers but don't look at me I lift 300lb people from before the positive test to around 36 weeks. I know how drab data work can be too so hopefully things will speed up and you'll be assigned another task. That or youcould insert humor here and there. ;)

Well, I don't heft boxes of books - I take them off the shelf and type them and put them back. Usually about 10-20 books at a time (paperback) so nothing strenuous. Certainly lighter than a toddler!

I'm all about the humor but I think ruining the database would be a bad idea in my first month.. ;)

Oh how I feel your pain. Probably half my grad assistantship is doing data entry and it makes me In.Sane. It's so tedious, and the stuff I have to enter is always a mess so I can't just be brainless, I have to actually THINK. oy.

I know we decided I should do this so I wouldn't be doing hard, stressful social work during pregnancy, but I feel like I stepped back several degrees to sit here. But hey, whatever makes a healthy baby, right?

I miss thinking.

Work is fun!

I had to pick up a different job after becoming pregnant with my first. I was working as a Gen. Mgr for 2 Cold Stone Creameries and by the end of my first trimester I had LOST weight because of being on my feet and not being able to eat enough. The job I found was terribly poor-paying (I went from 30k to $8/hr, which we could live on..but barely). Plus it was BORING. It was an art gallery where I basically sat on my butt for 8 hours a day. I logged in hundreds of hours of a video game on my cell phone.. lots of fun..

Yeah, I am super bored and we are definitely in a deficit now. But I am just trying to think ahead to the healthy baby!

Heh. Well there always has to be a LITTLE stress. The job itself is pretty stress-free for sure.

If it were up to me, I would pay you more. You're worth it.
