Or, how my faith has been at least partially restored in humanity.

Jen was planning to talk with her mother today (when we got to Florida) about her comment about having one baby and how awful it was. But instead we got sidetracked with all of this airline hooey and she ended up on the phone with her parents several times throughout the morning. At one point they were speaking and I was across the airport sitting in a chair.

Jen told me that her mom told her that she felt awful and really wanted to apologize for her inappropriate comment to me the other day. She said she felt so bad that she even went to Jen's dad and said she didn't know why it came out of her mouth. Jen told her that we were both feeling very bad about it and that she was talking about our lost child.

Apparently she told Jen she wanted to call my cell phone and apologize to me personally, but Jen thought it would be better if she just relayed the message to me. This is a good thing. I'm sure there will be some awkwardness when we get down there, but at least I don't have to feel like I'm the only person who thought it was inappropriate.

I'm impressed, though. I have seldom known Jen's mom to apologize for insensitive comments (and oh, she is good at them), and NEVER unprompted. Perhaps there is hope for my family after all.

Sometimes I really wonder how my diplomatic wife came out of such a crazy house. But I guess that's the way it goes. :)

I'm so glad to hear that she realized she was wrong and is apologizing for it.

that was pretty great! who knows why she said it in the first place, but i bet it's comforting to know she didn't mean it.

Or at least that even if she DID mean it, she realized that she should have never SAID it. Let's face it, we all think mean things sometimes... we just need to know when to keep our mouths shut!

That's so awesome that she realized she was wrong and wanted to apologize. I actually wouldn't be surprised if she changed quite a bit now that you and Jen are pregnant. Grandparenting is golden to a lot of people and I've known friends that seemed to have a lot less family tension with parents once they had children. I hope that that is the case for all of you. And I don't mean that to sound like "babies fix things" I think it's more like "babies humble us and make us reprioritize what is truly important in life"

I wonder if things will be different when the baby actually comes. We spent four days there and I wondered if it would be different now that we were pregnant, and it wasn't very different. Or maybe I'm just sensitive, I don't know. I just don't think they like me all that much, or that it would be better if Jen visited by herself. Who knows? It's all politics anyway.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the future.

TRUE! I am the gatekeeper of all things baby! (Okay, that's not entirely true but it sounds really funny!)
