There is little lonelier than working on a college campus on the Friday of Spring Break. It is like a freaking ghost town around here. As I was walking the bazillion miles from my assigned parking lot to my job (I tend to call it the "Involuntary Employee Exercise Program") I realized that I could have totally parked in the tiny lot outside my office door - and sure enough, the whole lot was completely empty.

We went and came back from Florida with no hitches - no long lines, no cancelled flights, no emergencies - which is nice. The weather was gorgeous, 80s usually and sunny, and there was some pool floating. We also went to the big beach on Wednesday to walk around a little bit and it was HOT there. It was hard to believe we'd left big snowpiles behind at home, it just didn't seem like the same time of the year. I could never live in a place like that because I would NEVER do anything but soak around.

I wasn't great about eating, though, and think I put on 5lbs. during vacation alone. I'm not sure because our home scale is incredibly defective but there was a jump. Yikes. I am scared to go to the midwife and find out for sure, and I'm also scared that I've picked up the fun of GD since I stopped Metformin. (Glucose screen's in a little over a week.) I don't know why it seemed like a good idea at the time. It's nice to be drug-free but not at the expense of my health or my kid's.

Here's hoping it's just a vacation fluke and that things settle down when I go back to eating like a normal person. I tried to eat good breakfasts and stuff but when you go out to eat for almost every meal it's kind of inevitable. HOWEVER, we did go to a Bob Evans and because I hadn't had any since I left Ohio, I did indulge in a glass of their blue koolaid. It was the most disgustingly sweet thing I'd had in a long time (usually I drink about a gallon of water a day) but the kid LOVED it and was jonesing for more all day. Besides, it made me think of Sean ([livejournal.com profile] livinginfits) and all of the bloolaid we drank during our dinner dates. I sure do miss me some Sean.

Is it possible to gain like 10lbs in a month and NOT have GD? Please?

I just asked my two coworkers, one of who has had three kids (in the past three years! yikes!) and one who has a pregnant wife right now, and they said that at your stage, two pounds a week is a normal gain and we all know that a weeks vacation can put 5 pounds on you, pregnant or not. So it sounds like you're fine.

Yeah, I'm hoping this is a vacation jump caused by ridiculous amounts of eating out (not to mention daily intake of ice cream) and not something else. We're back on the healthy eating wagon as of today and hopefully things will get back on track.

I have this weird GD paranoia. Make it go away!

(Thanks for asking people about it, btw!)

Oh hell yeh, remember I put on 4 pounds on vacation myself, and I wasn't in preggy-munchy mode.

Yeah, but you get to do your weigh-ins in the privacy of your own home.

I am dreading my next prenatal! :)

True. I don't do that. I just get clucking tongues at the doctor's office. :)

Yea it is normal. I did that I had done super well all along and then had a gain of 12 pounds in a month and no GD.

Oh, this is reassuring news.

I know part of it is "catch up" from when I wasn't gaining weight at all, and I know part of it is Metformin rebound (I'm still a good 20lbs below my pre-Metformin weight)... I just get so worried about GD because I am already insulin resistant and took Metformin for 2+ years.

I guess I'll find out in about 10 days one way or the other. Time to Face the Music.

Did you get the package? It says it was delivered today.

You are reminding me of my past job on campus here. It was so strange when all the kids left - very quiet.

I gained about that in a month and I didn't have GD.

Yes, thank you! It was waiting for us when we got back on Saturday.

It is possible to gain 10 lbs in a month and not have GD. If I remember rightly you did not gain too much in your 1st trimester. Maybe you are catching up and/or getting ready for a growth spurt.

I hope you're right! I don't want to bother with GD or complications.

I remember taking a trip back home in October for 4 days and came home with a 5 lb weight gain. That month for sure I gained 10 lbs. This is the time you'll put it on. I didn't gain as much in the third trimester as I did in the second.

Glad you enjoyed Florida!

Oh, that's good to know that the second tri is all about the weight gain. Because oh boy, I am living up to it! :)

see? i told you you woudl gain weight! :) and you were worried at first about NOT gaining weight, and I told you not to count those chickens! I gained a bucnh of weight very rapidly, in the 2nd tri, and then it levels off. actually, i beleive it was right around the timeline that you are at right now. it DOES NOT MEAN you have GD. you are making fluids, retaining water, making blood, and GROWING BABY AUGUST!

dont' worry....two weeks PP i was down to my pre-preggo weight, plus 5 lbs. so i lost 34 lbs in two weeks. breastfeeding works!

Okay, that is good to know. I just feel like such a big oinker! (Of course that doesn't stop me from eating.)

Not that I'm basing this on anyone or anything... but I think you are probably ok... just definitely watch it because of your history so you don't continue to develop GD.
Good luck... and great to hear vacay went great. I could do for sun and soaking right now.... we are wet, wet, wet here in OH. Rain for the last several days and more to come I think. Good for the flowers though.

Yeah, it was nice to have some warm weather for sure. I hate cold and we got a foot of snow before we went on our trip!

I will keep my fingers crossed that the GD stays away. I don't eat a lot of refined sugars or anything like that so hopefully I am good.

Well I've got GD and I've not gained any weight for months now, so I'm pretty sure that weight gain or lack thereof has nothing much to do with GD. In fact I've decided that pregnancy weight gain is the weirdest thing ever! I gained 3 kilos in the first trimester when I couldn't stop vomiting, then have only gained 2 more kilos even when I was stuffing my face with icecream every day. So I'm still at a grand total of 5 kilos, with no weight gain at all in third trimester.
