I really feel like this is a real Hump Day. The beginning of the week has been a real doozy and I am starting to feel like we are cresting the hill, which is nice.

I got an interesting phone call on Sunday and I was pretty chill about it at first, then it started digging at me. (I blame hormones.) The weather didn't help. Feeling sick didn't help. Fester, fester.

On Monday, I discovered our little river in the basement and felt like the world's biggest schmuck because even though I had the day off and Jen was at work, I had to call her and get her out of work because I couldn't move a lot of the stuff. I moved everything I could, slid stuff I couldn't pick up (as long as it wasn't in the water), but still felt like a schmuck. And then because I didn't feel well and hadn't eaten (my pre-lunch laundry turned into two hours of reorganizing the basement), Jen ended up running to the store by herself to get the shop-vac and stuff. Schmuck.

Having water in the basement was ridiculously stressful. I know it's one of those homeowner eventualities, but man. It sucked.

There's no more water coming in, but last night we came into the house and I realized the whole house smelled like mud. Musty mud. And when we turned the heat on, it was worse. (The forced air system draws air from the basement.) And I did what any hopped-up-on-hormones pregnant chick would do, and freaked out about the possibility of mold and musty air and OMG-That-Will-Hurt-The-Baby. Not great.

Oh! And the kicker was when Jen was trying to cheer me up by suggesting a quick trip to the mall to go to a craft store and buy supplies to make a scrapbook of our TTC journey. It was so sweet but one of the main roads we take to get to the mall was closed due to flooding, and we got detoured but there were no signs about how to actually detour, and we got ridiculously and hopelessly lost, and asked one police officer and one convenience store clerk and the 20 minute trip to the mall took 90 MINUTES and we got there at 8 instead of just before 7, had to hit the store without eating because the mall would be closed soon, and ate dinner at 9:00 at a stupid 99 Pub which, if you are not familiar, is not terrible but when you don't have $20 to spare, you don't spend it on junk chain pub food.

Needless to say we DID get the scrapbooking supplies but didn't get home until after 10 and then, yeah, the mud smell.

So, hump day. The basement is not seeping water, hopefully the weather will be nice and we can open some windows soon, the dehumidifier is working, we haven't died yet from the mustiness, and we can start scrapping it up - which I have to admit was one of the sweetest things Jen has mentioned so far. Second only to watching your butch wife paw through frilly dresses for your daughter is watching her choose fancy scrapbooking paper.

The thought of Jen pawing through frilly dresses is a bit of an amusing mental picture =)

Yea, that cracks me up, too. :) Sorry to hear about your basement woes, though, Jude. We've been lucky and have no basement issues, but our roof has seen better days. Fricking homeownership!

And don't feel like a schmuck for not being able to move stuff. You're way pregnant!

Yeah, we're going to have to do the roof thing at some point in the next couple of years. How does that work with your condo association dealio?

I don't feel as much like a schmuck for not being able to move everything as for having to call Jen at work.

I'll have you know that I pick out pretty dresses for August - despite my personal aversion to wearing them;)

And I don't "paw" I browse...heh

Creating a TTC scrap book is a great idea. What kinds of things are you going to put in other then u/s pictures??

I'm not sure. I think some general pictures of us, of family, of the cats, of the positive HPTs maybe... and pictures of our house and all of that. Everything pre-baby.

My girlfriend combs Lexi's hair with bows and does a better job then me. I love it. Good idea on the scrapbook. It will be such a special thing for the baby.
