judecorp: (let's stay inside)

It is already Thursday. Where does the time go? July will be here before I know it, and there is still so much crap to do! I realized yesterday that we have plans for the next SIX weekends. And then? There are only 5 left! *gulp* And we still have to find time to go to IKEA. Maybe Memorial Day weekend? Gah, I don't know.

I don't want to go to work today. I would rather stay home and hang up pictures in the dining room, and clean out the kitchen, and hang Jen's paintings in the guest room, and find something to hang in the living room over those screws the previous owners had in the walls. The previous owners of this house were interesting folks. I think they had secret fantasies of being on "Trading Spaces" if their decorating schemes were any indication. I especially think of their daughter's room (the Ugly Room, if you will), with its painted blue ceiling, painted pink and white stripes on the bottom half of the walls, yellow princess wallpaper on the top half of the walls, and a pink princess border between them. Did I mention that the ceiling is blue? And that since they used wallpaper up top they didn't really care that they got blue paint on the tops of the walls? And the stripes are all different heights since the wallpaper was covering them up? You should see that room. I should take pictures. I didn't when the wallpaper was there because it was too frightening, but perhaps you should see the goofy ceiling and stripes. It's ghastly.

So yeah. I don't want to go to work, I want to do fun home improvement projects that don't involve wet basements or drain de-clogging. And when are we ever going to get to our yard? Man, it takes a village to make a house look good!

Every room in our house except the living room, which they hadn't gotten around to screwing up yet, was paint over many layers of wallpaper over bare sheetrock. The two small bedrooms, one of which is now an office, were varying shades of electric blue. The kitchen was the color of vomit. The dining room was mauve. The halls were white, but those walls still needed to be redone because it was white paint over wallpaper as well. Our bedroom was the best though. We suspect that they simply mixed all their leftover colors from ther other rooms and used it on the walls and ceiling (yup, our ceiling was brown!) of the master bedroom.

We've lived in the house three years and I'm just now getting around to spackling the walls of the office.

And I feel your pain on the yard. After I finish the office, we need to buy curtains for every room and then finish the basement. I guess the yard will be next summer.

Yeah, we had high hopes of gardening and such but I'm thinking maybe next year. Jen's really got her heart set on it, though, so who knows? My guess is that we will simply run out of time.

What are people THINKING when they decorate their houses? Brown walls and ceiling? GROSS!!!

Well, hey, it matched the leopard-print bedspread. It was their White Trash Den O' LUV.

Man, it takes a village to make a house look good!

Tell me about it.

I'm just hoping we can get our kitchen finished before the permit expires in June! (And damnit I wanna have a kitchen again!)

And you know, it would be nice to be able to unpack. And it would be nice to be able to put stuff up on the walls. And and and and....

Gosh, I hope you guys get your kitchen finished, too. You deserve a kitchen! (Although when we were there last, it looked like a lot of progress had been made.)

Maybe when I'm not knocked up anymore we can head out that way (baby in tow) and actually do some work!

We do. We actually got it at IKEA a while back. But thanks so much for offering! You're sweet.

Anything else you want to ditch? We'll be heading to the notorious W-O-O-N probably the first Sunday in May to see my grandparents.

I'd take adorable Enzo Chenzo, but I don't think you're giving him up.

Ooh, a diaper-bag-backpack is ideal for Jen because let's face it, can you imagine her with a purse bag? (HA HA HA, I slay myself.) We have an infant car seat (thanks, Grandma!) but if either of yours is a Graco I would totally borrow one of your bases for the other car. Actually, I'll borrow anything you want to lend.

Because mainly, I JUST WANT TO SEE YOU!!

I'm thinking we might be out that way on Sunday, May 6th. I'm not 100% but if I don't go down there soon my grandparents will disown me. :)

xoxoxo

Awww, the nesting is so adorable! If I lived closer, I'd be there in an instant with my Radio Flyer wagon full tools wearing my haulhauls. :)

It's part nesting, part OH MY GOD IS THIS HOUSE EVER GOING TO BE FINISHED? :)

But I would gladly have you over for yardwork - I've seen what you've done with your garden!

Yeah, it took a good five years before we started getting around to those "I wish" projects - both time and money wise, we just weren't feeling it before then.

I hear ya. Jen's really gung-ho about everything, though. I wish I didn't have to be the wet blanket who knows that the bank account isn't as gung-ho as we are. :)
