We should never EVER be allowed within 15 feet of a Baby Gap.

We have a giftcard we need to use and I'm holding out because I know I'll spend WAY more then the amount of the g/c. What did you buy?

Well, it /started/ because I wanted to see if they had any shirts on sale for ME. Now that the weather is warming up some, it hit me that I don't have too many short-sleeve shirts. But of course you have to walk through the whole baby part first. AUGH!

We could have easily spent $300 on stuff there. Ugh. But we ended up only looking in their sale rack, and got a cute newborn onesie with embroidery (so girly) for $9 and Jen found this awesome newborn cotton overall/romper for like $11. Both are white so they will probably be trashed very early on, but we're thinking the romper will be part of the going-home fun!

I ended up getting a short-sleeve shirt and a thinner long-sleeve shirt for me. They cost about the same as the baby's stuff, but with a LOT more material. WTF?

The white Baby Gap stuff comes surprisingly clean in the wash. My sister picked up a white duck print Baby Gap outfit at a local thrift store before Laurel was born. It still looks new seven years and several kids wearing it later.

Oh, that's good to know. I was planning to just keep my kid in a full-body plastic bag on those days the white stuff was worn.

Wouldn't the plastic make them sweat? (;

Those baby detergents are amazing at getting stains out. I keep some on hand even now for some of the crazy food stains Laurel's gotten.

Good to know! What detergent do you use?

Sounds like fun!! It's amazing how much baby clothes cost when you think it's hardly any material (esp. newborn clothes). Some kind of crap!

Oh, I know. We have a TON of second-hand stuff and that is much more reasonable. But, you know, sometimes you just can't help it...

I don't know, it sounds like you guys did okay. Sticking to the sale rack and only two items a piece...not to shabby. You will get lots of use out of them!

Well it could have been worse, that's true. But right now we're totally strapped! :)

Baby clothes in general are dangerous! I bought so many clothes for my nephew before he was born- everything was so cute and I could not stop myself. I guess it runs in the family because my mother buys clothes for our not-yet-conceived baby.

It's true. It's like potato chips - once you get one, you just can't stop!

Jude, We are just as bad. We started buying baby clothes almost a yr ago. we havnt gone to crazy yet. But we have babywipes, a niki, about 6 outfits and then there is stuff we get in the mail like baby dipers, simalac, crap like that. Oh we have baby shampoo and lotion.

So we totally understand and we arent even pregnant yet. talk about crazy!!

That be me!!!

Oh, I feel better. I didn't buy a single baby item until we were at LEAST out of the first trimester. I was too worried that something terrible would happen!

They have the cutest stuff, but I hardly ever shop there because it's so expensive. I do have a $50 gift card burning a hole in my pocket, though.

Might I suggest checking out Children's Place? They have SUPER DUPER cute clothes and are much more reasonably priced than the Gap.

They have better clothes, yes, but I personally wouldn't buy anything from there because of the administration's blatant stance on how children should absolutely wear gendered clothing. I wrote about it here (including direct quotes lifted from a feature about the business):

The link from the feature at the top of your blog is no longer valid, so I wasn't able to read the entire article. From what I could tell from the quotations you noted, it's more of a general philosophy than a blatant stance. I don't really have a problem with that. Maybe if I could have read the entire article I'd feel differently. But I appreciate you sharing.

Yeah, they deleted the article. D'oh!

Oh, I totally get that other people might be fine shopping there. Clearly they are, because the place stays in business. The quotes I lifted are enough to keep ME from ever shopping there though.

You know what's fun? Going into Target and trying to figure out how on earth they chose which items fit into which gender. Their bedding is all labeled on the shelf sticker as "boy bedding, $29.99" or whatever. Tweety bird is for girls. Spongebob is for boys. Hmmm...

Interesting. I don't know much about them, but I imagine the attitude is not terribly different at ANY children's boutique.

I wish the article was still available.

I have been into Children's Place a couple of times, but I've never found anything good on sale. I tend to only dare to look at the sale racks or the thrift stores.

K was given a $50 giftcard for Baby Gap - it bought one pair of jeans and one cardigan sweater. But, man, are they ever cute! We may have purchased a few more items since then. Love that sale rack.

Yeah, it wouldn't be so bad if the stuff was ugly - but I just love it! Damn them!

That IS cute! I saw another "two mommies" onesie on cafe press or something, and I love them. The only problem is that the smallest ones are 6month, and I want my kid to wear it right away!!
