dining room

At long last are some not-so-great photos of our new dining room. The previous wall color was a sort of washed-out blue-grey that wasn't /bad/ but wasn't good by any stretch of the imagination. We like this one much better, and tend toward brighter colors as a whole. We also painted the interior panels of the IKEA corner china cabinet (Liatorp series) to match (they were previously a sage color). I unpacked a bunch of Vovo's china and placed it inside as well. I have full service for 16 (dinner plates, salad plates, dessert plates, large bowls, smaller bowls, finger bowls, saucers, teacups) as well as special pieces (serving platters, serving bowls, gravy boat, creamer, sugar bowl, coffee/teapot, large covered serving bowl, etc.) but I only put 8 in there. As you can see, we'd be hard-pressed to even fit 8 in the dining room. The rest can live in the basement.

We're considering bringing the blue color down the far wall (the one with the shorter window) through the living room to make the rooms appear larger. We're just not sure if the blue will clash with the red brick of the fireplace.

Since this photo was taken, we've also added white eyelet balloon curtains to the windows and hung up some artwork. It's quite lovely.

More photos of the dining room and the cabinet in our home set.

(Thanks, Morgan, for all of your help!!)

Absolutely precious! And I love how the cabinet now looks like a built-in, thanks to painting the insides a matching color - I'll have to remember that trick!

And I have some pieces of that china, I think - I got it at a garage sale, and it's just some random mismatched pieces, but at the time I was just enchanted with it, so I bought them and have had them up for display ever since... lol! so pretty!

Yeah, I really like how the cabinet looks with the wall color inside. I don't know if we would have painted it like that if it hadn't been a corner piece, but it just sort of looking like part of the room. It's fun! (I will tell you, though, that the inside panels are that IKEA cardboardy stuff so the paint doesn't want to stick to it AT ALL, and every time I moved a dish some would scratch off.)

I don't think it's the fanciest china ever, and I don't know jack about china. But I know that several sets of this china floated through my family (my aunt and uncle had some probably from my grandparents, and this set was at my dad's) so in a lot of ways it just feels like nostalgic family dinner party. Someday maybe we'll get to pull some out and use it!

(I just think it's funny that it matches the walls. We hadn't even planned that. Crazy!)

Wow! Painting the inside of the cabinet the same color = brilliant!

Wait, do you really not have curtains in the dining room? Aren't you afraid of the whole wide world knowing your business? I wish I had that confidence. :/

Well, we have curtains now. We bought them after I took these pictures. But we didn't have any when we moved in November. We don't really use the dining room much and we're not right on top of our neighbors. I suppose if they REALLY wanted to, they could look in, but they wouldn't see much more than a messy table usually. :)

I love the blue! And IKEA is the best. I wish we had one close to us.

Where is your nearest IKEA? We have two that are each about 2 hours away. We've been to both. I love IKEA but there is so much stuff and I get so overwhelmed!

4 hours away in Minneapolis. If I got down there once in awhile I'd go a lot and always bring things back. And to have things shipped is OUTRAGEOUS. I wish they'd build one here.

Four hours is a pain. I hope you get a closer one soon!

You can't have our house! Then I would have nowhere to live! :O

I do like a little decorating, but I don't have that "eye." Well, maybe I would if I could actually afford the stuff I want, ha ha. Instead I'm always trying to mash stuff together, like college!

Really beautiful. The blue and the trim are sort of crisp and warm and the same time. Much like a pie. :)
