Jen spoke to the midwife on the phone today. I wanted her to get the info first hand in case I either wasn't saying it correctly or that I had missed something. Apparently the midwife was nice and reassuring to Jen and said that she was pretty sure everything was fine with the growth, she had no reason to suspect otherwise.

Jen explained to the midwife that some friends of ours went through a similar situation last year and ended up with a bunch of complications down the road that were scary, even though they all turned out fine. She told her that our friends told us that in hindsight, they wish they'd been a little more proactive and a little less willing to take the reassurance. That's actually all we could think about last night, for the most part. The "what if."

The midwife offered a quick ultrasound if we wanted it, and Jen said that she thought it was a good idea. We swore we wouldn't have any more ultrasounds, and I know that ultrasounds aren't really all that reliable in terms of guessing fetal size, but I think we would be able to see /something/ if something was going wrong, like low fluid or really small baby or whatever. The ultrasound folks called right away and we're going tomorrow at noon to see how big the Frankinator is.

I am hopeful that everything will be fine, but of course nervous that maybe something isn't. It's better to know, right?

Better to know, because then you don't waste energy worrying about what ifs. :NODS:

I will just speak from my experience. I am very non medical intervention so when they asked if I wanted a down's test I said no because it wouldn't have changed our decision with anything. So a few weeks go by and I stupidly turned on MTV about a teenager having a down's baby which they were unprepared. So I was so worried I would be unprepared which is a valid concern. So I worried and worried making it unhealthy on the baby. So anyways my advice is to look at each situation and really look at both ways. Also remember that parenting is a whole new way of thinking you can't be tough on yourself.

We refused all of those tests too, and yeah, sometimes you just get those weird doubts that creep in. I hate that.

I'm glad everything worked out, though. (I'm also glad I didn't see any MTV stuff.)

i don't think there's any harm in taking a peek...however! ultrasound can be 2 pounds off in either direction in the third trimester. welcome to a lifetime of worry. :)

post pictures, if you get them!

Yeah, I know u/s can be way off... I just want to check if the head circumference and belly circumference were matching up. So that was all good. :)

Ultrasounds aren't going to hurt anything....and they can be suprisingly accurate! Mine were exactly correct every time....even the one the day before I had the baby....they got the weight exactly....7 lbs 14 oz.

She will eb fine!

Yeah, I don't think ultrasounds cause problems or anything like that, I just wanted to avoid a lot of unnecessary crap with my kid. But in the end, I think it was necessary for our peace of mind, and it made all of the difference in the world. :)

One of my friends had to have an ultrasound every week to monitor a lung condition and the baby turned out fine -- I think it's okay to make this exception to your rules because it WILL allay your fears and because you both discussed this and agreed on it. The instinct of two Mom's can't be wrong.

Yeah, it seems like pregnancy and parenthood are ALL about breaking your own rules. Weird, right?

I'm glad we got the ultrasound. MY BABY HAS HAIR!!
