We have been watching a lot of television. What else can you do, really, when you have a baby on your chest and you're tired? Actually, I started watching a lot of television when I was on bedrest for bleeding, and then that trend continued when I was off work for two weeks before the kid was born.

Things we love:
Top Chef
Flip This House (note: NOT Flip That House) - esp. the Trademark Property people
Law & Order (all varieties)
Jeopardy!
America's Next Top Model
So You Think You Can Dance
ER

I also have two more DVDs of Big Love, but Jen doesn't want to watch it (sulk) so I will have to wait until she goes back to work this week.

Speaking of, what the heck am I going to do when she's at work??!?!?!

You have such good taste in TV!

Well, I watch other stuff too which isn't on right now, like Survivor. Do you like Survivor? Because I am totally addicted to that show. Really, I can watch any reality show, because I am the Lowest Common Denominator of television.

Those are fun shows.
We don't have cable so we watch our Friends DVDs every night. We start at season 1 and go all the way through season 10...then we move on to our Gilmore Girls dvds, then throw in some L Word or Felicity.
Our friends think we are weird because of this, but its better than watching fuzzy TV.

We didn't have cable in any of our other places, and I used to use Netflix to rent a lot of television shows. It was how we kept up with Queer As Folk, The L Word, and others. I love watching TV on DVD. Recently we rented Gay Weddings (a Bravo show).

We ended up with cable here because we got one of those internet/phone/cable bundles for a year. After the year is up, the cable will probably go.

Yeah, the wifey wants to do netflix or some other mail-order dvd club, but I just don't see us getting our money's worth out of it. We have more DVDs than anyone of our friends and pretty much all the ones that we would rent, we own...except the new releases, and then those shows that we never got into in the first place.
I feel so priveleged to get a comment from you! And I've only known you online for the past month or so, but I am so excited for you and your little family. You give us hope!

Thanks for your kind words. We go tomorrow to find out about what to do about my cyst (They found a complex right ovarian cyst when they did an ultrasound). Hopefully whatever they have to do won't delay the baby making too much!

My evil friend coerced me into getting Big Love and watching it. I still haven't, but I probably will start. That's just what I need - to start watching more tv!

I've only watched the first disc. Catch up and we can watch it together!

How many episodes are on a disc? I just watched the first episode and I think the show looks pretty good.

The first disc has two episodes on it. So I'm up to #3.

My sister got me the complete North and South on DVD for my birthday last year. I can't tell you how many 3am feedings it got me through.

Wow, it never occurred to me to go watch something while feeding the baby at night. That would mean getting out of bed!

This was during our exclusive-pumping period. I was getting up every three hours to pump anyhow. As soon as she could latch without shields (around 6 months) we switched to nursing in bed.

Date: 2007-07-15 07:35 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com
Aaah, I gotcha.

Sometimes I think about trying to go to all pumping, but even at my best (first thing in the morning) I can only score just under an ounce (both sides together) and then I'm dry for several hours so she screams at my boob.

I think I'm going to keep her at the boob even though it's not as good for supply building. I'm too selfish to give up our boob time. :)

From: [identity profile] amyura.livejournal.com
Just saw this and actually, baby sucking is BETTER for supply :)

From: [identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com
I meant, not following up with pumping, or pumping in between feedings or whatever. I /could/ but then I couldn't spend as much time snuggling my cute kid.

When she's at work you will:

1)Nurse/feed
2)Sleep
3)Nurse/feed
4)Eat a few times somehow
5)Nurse/feed
6)Sleep
7)Laundry/Tv/dishes

and that's pretty much it...at least it was here for the first month or so. Though I did get out of the house every day for a walk or one errand or playgroup so I actually felt like a human being!

From: [identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com
I can't sleep during the daytime. It's a curse. So whatever sleep I managed to score at night time is what I get for the day. But yes, I imagine there will be a lot of baby-feeding, and the occasional trip to the bathroom. :)

It is funny how Flip This House is good and Flip That House is bad. And it's funny that they're both on TV with practically the same name.

And Law and Order is fabulous, but CI is the best cause Goren gets me hot with his vast knowledge.

I can't stand Flip That House. It's so boring! Yuck.

I like SVU the best out of all of the L&Os. Because I love Mariska Hargitay.

I do too. She's purdy.

My wife and I both love L&O, but L. likes SVU (or SUV as we sometimes call it as a joke) best of all... mainly because of Mariska.

L. practically went through withdrawal earlier this season when Mariska wasn't in a lot of episodes because she'd just had a baby. I tried to comfort L. by reminding her that Mariska deserves some maternity leave too, but sadly, it was cold comfort. L. needs her Mariska fix.

I love Big Love so much! We're only uyp to ep5 of season 1 here so it's all new and exciting :-)
You poor thing about the breast feeding troubles. You are doing so well sweetie! Hang in there! You are a great mum to your baby!
I had a bit low supply in the beginning and I would have whole days of feeding him for 12 hours non-stop - literally. I would just sit on that couch and keep swapping over the sides and staring at the television. Little Mister would bring me meals and drinks and hold my hand. By about 6pm I would get in the shower and bawl my eyes out while I scrubbed myself all over, get out and put on nice body lotion and comfy PJ pants and then nurse for a bit longer before he and I would finally crash out for the night, have a sleep and then start all over again. It was so fucking draining - physically, mentally and emotionally. The worst part was when visitors would just "drop in" unannounced and I'd be sitting there shirtless and miserable and they wouldn't get the hint that I didn't want to talk or see anyone. Blech!

But I hung in there and now that part is like a bad dream and things are great. He only takes about 20 minutes to feed now and if it seems like supply has dropped a bit again and he wants to feed constantly I'm back on that fenugreek in a flash.

Whatever you choose will be the right decision for your family. And it's not an either/or situation which is nice so you can do both as it feels right. Go girl! Thinking of you!

I wish that nursing non-stop would be enough to up my supply. I can usually do switch nursing on her for about an hour before she gets every single last drop out and is still hungry and starts to cry - at that point I have to bring in the supplement. I wish my body would just do its dang job, you know?

I'm glad you guys are in the Feeding Zone now and things are going well. That is really awesome. Fenugreek didn't really seem to help much aside from the maple smell but domperidone has made a difference (went to half an ounce to about an ounce) so I'm sticking with that.

This stuff is hard!

I love Top Model and So You Think You Can Dance so so so much. I also watch Flip This House when I remember it's on... I actually just finished watching an episode. Richard cracks me up.

And oh - Big Love. I loved it so much. It kills me that I have to wait so long to watch season two. I watched the entire first season in one straight shoot (over Memorial Day Weekend). LOVE it.

Are you a Big Brother fan? That's on 3 nights a week - which is either great for what you've got going or way too big of a time commitment.

I love Richard too - and Ginger with her little dog. :) My brother and I have a battle about the Montelongos - he hates them and I think they're funny.

I have 2 discs of Big Love to watch this week while I'm home alone with the baby. I can't wait!!

I watched Big Brother All Stars last summer and I liked it. I meant to start watching this season but things have been a little, erm, busy. (And Jen doesn't like it.)

She doesn't like Big Brother or Big Love, she doesn't find simple humor in funny names of minor league baseball teams... honestly, what fun is she? ;)

we started watching big love a few months ago in a on demand marathon and we love it. this season is really good. do you watch the closer? i watched that in a marathon when i was in the hospital last summer.
you will do pretty much the same you are doing now, but alone. i was in a panic when jeani went back to work, but it worked out and i figured out that hey, i can do this mom stuff. lol.
just enjoy all this now, it goes by so fast..

I haven't seen The Closer but you're the second person to mention it to me this weekend. :) So maybe I will have to check it out.

I know we will manage but I think the first couple of days will be a challenge in terms of food and bathroom time. I'll have to bring out the bouncer seat.

I just wonder how the overnight stuff will go. Right now I do the 45 or so minutes of nursing and then Jen follows up with the bottle, but she's hard to wake up and I imagine it will be worse when she has to wake up for work.

i was trying to think of the shows that i DVR, i have to admit that i have a guilty pleasure and am watching burn notice, it is like a train wreck, really bad but so bad that you cannot turn away. LOL. i do like john from cincinatti on hbo, but jeani hates it.
um.. i never miss the daily show, the colbert report, and countdown with keith olbermann, its the only place to get real news on tv. LOL.

i think jaxen was on a follow up bottle from jeani for about 2 weeks after he came home. did you try oats for your milk supply? just plain old rolled oats, i swear that it was magic, they dont taste all that great, but they upped my milk supply overnight.
lol, i have had him on my lap so many times when i went to the bathroom it is weird not to have him in there with me. you will be amazed at how many things that you can do one handed.
lol, eating will become like grazing and foraging. LOL. eat as much as you can when she is asleep. i swear i dont remember what a warm meal tastes like. LOL. now that he is eating solids with us, off my plate, its all about him until he is done, and then i get to eat.
it is a wonderful adventure. :) very worth all of it.
are you baby wearing too? that makes things a lot easier as well, you have 2 free hands and a content baby.
