My own Manny

Someone on Freecycle has a couple of orange tabby double-pawed kittens. They are five weeks old. One of them is a boy.
I'm insane for thinking of taking him, right? With a disaster house and a new baby and three cats - two of whom do not get along - this is a bad idea, right?

Date: 2007-09-10 08:25 pm (UTC)Anyway - don't do it. We just got 2 kittens - that means 4 cats and 1 dog. While they kittens are a blast in my home with my older kids - they tear ass around nonstop not considering what's in their path and we ALL have scratches everywhere. Not good for newborns. Wait awhile if you want more.
The Story of the Cats
Date: 2007-09-10 08:28 pm (UTC)In 1998, A and I got Daedalus and his littermate, Icarus. Although at the time we were told they were girls and their names were Pandora and Kali. (For a brief period in between, they were Pandora-With-Balls and Kali-With-Balls.) They were 4 weeks old when I got them.
We had to put Icarus to sleep in 1999 because he had kidney failure. Because Daedalus got lonely, we went to the shelter and we got a grey cat named Bree. She hated Daedalus. A few months later, my stepsister got a cat for her 3-year-old daughter and the landlord found it and she was going to "take it back." So I took her instead. That was Ralph. She helped Daedalus and Bree get along a little bit... but she had a tapeworm. YUCK.
(We were living in Maine at the time. D&I came from New Brunswick, Canada; Bree from Bangor, ME; Ralph from Woonsocket, RI.)
We took D, B, and R to Columbus. When A&I broke up, I took D&R and he took Bree, who had a sort of unholy love for him. She hated me.
When Jen and I moved in together, she had a kitten named Grendel. Ralph kept trying to kill Grendel, so we gave Grendel to
We got Fin (you probably remember that!) two years ago this fall from a couple of people in Boston. Same sort of story as Ralph - landlord found the cats, they were going to take them to the shelter. I am a sucker for a cat that is going to go to a shelter. That was 2005.
So yeah, Daedalus and Ralph are 9 this year. My poor guys.

Date: 2007-09-10 08:36 pm (UTC)And a reality check - my two babies went to the vet last week for a doctor visit, dewormer and Feline Leukemia tests. That cost us $200. We still need 2 more rounds of vaccines [probably $100 each visit] and then they need to be fixed [1 boy, 1 girl] which will run up another $400 or so. And kitten food. And double litter. And....
