I felt like Supermom yesterday. I dragged my kid all over creation getting things done. Our first stop was the pediatrician to get the second half of her flu shot, and from there we went to Leeds to pick up some of those electric candles you put in the window (thank you, Freecycle), and then hit the post office to mail our Secret Snowmom gift, a holiday card for [livejournal.com profile] juliann, and a little pressie for Punk's internet buddy, Carys. We then went home and did lunch and naptime, and after nap went up to the bank to deposit some of my mileage checks and bought Punk's gift for her holiday party on Friday.

[Yes, her child care is having a party on Friday, and all of the kids picked names out of a hat for a gift swap ($5). How freaking cute is that??!?! So for $5, I got Punk's pick (Lucy, age 3) two coloring books (My Little Pony and The Littlest Pet Shop), a box of 24 crayons, and a sheet of Santa Claus stickers. Not too shabby.]

I also got some gift boxes, a gift bag for the gifts we got for our church's angel tree, and some other random stuff. And then came home. When Jen came home, we hit the mall for dinner and some holiday shopping, knocking one more gift off the list.

Today was officially Online Shopping Day around here, and I ordered a gift for my [livejournal.com profile] smurfbrother and one for his wife, got my grandfather's birthday gift (January 3rd) and knocked out all of Jen's immediate family (parents, brothers). And because it was on major sale ($7 marked down from $20), I tacked on a Melissa and Doug "band in a box" for Punk. Since I got my mother's gift at work on Thursday (she wanted a gift card to Olive Garden and I happened to be doing an evaluation right near Olive Garden), I think that we're pretty much done around here except for the wrapping and mailing. I have to split up Punk's Christmas pictures and mail those out, too.

At some point today/tonight, we have to decorate the tree that's been in the house since, oh, Tuesday or so. Trees look LAME when they are in your living room undecorated. Really weird.

And oh my gosh, but if I don't get those holiday cards done and out this weekend I will go berserk. Berserk, I tell you.

Oh, my little cherub is up from her nap (early), so I guess that's it for my productivity!

I have fresh carp fillets available for two weeks. I will fillet them
when you arrive. Our pond is overpopulated and must be thinned to
maintain a healthy habitat. The fish are healthy and plump. I can
give you some good Chinese recipes. What can't be given away will
sadly be killed and sent to the landfill.

I have the rockin' pneumonia and the Punkytown flu. Temp this evening was 100.2 and I feel like I was hit by a freight train.

Punk went in to the pedi this morning about the puking and left with a script for an ear infection. How did my sweet baboo get an ear infection? So sad. No puking today, though. Pedi says it's mucus related and not GI.

Also, the person down the street who left me two bags of FreeCycle toys in PAPER BAGS when we have had rain all day is a cruel, cruel sort. Gah, that was annoying.

I hope Punk sleeps well tonight because I need to kick this thing. I have one interview tomorrow and two on Wednesday and would prefer not to look and act like the walking dead. Yarg.

Airborne tonight fo shizz.

I love FreeCycle.

I haven't been as great at purging stuff lately but I hope to get back into it. But oh, I have made a couple of good scores!

A few weeks ago I managed to score one of those plastic swings that you hang from a tree. It's definitely not in "brand new" shape but it looks like the ropes and seat are perfectly fine and it could just use a little cleaning. Awesome, because I want Punk to have a swing this spring/summer.

Today I managed to nab one of those bike seats you put on the back of your bicycle and strap your kid into it. I'm pretty sure Punk is too small for it this year but I can hold onto it until next year or the fall or whenever she is large enough. Then I have an excuse to get on my bike again! I'll pick that up tomorrow.

A funny FreeCycle story:
A while back this woman posted that she had a bunch of summer clothes/shorts and stuff to give away and I thought they might fit Jen so I went and picked them up. Well, there WERE some shorts in there but there were also a lot of dresses and skorts and frilly shirts and other things that are definitely not Jen. So she picked out the stuff she wanted and then put the rest in a bag with some other clothes she wasn't wearing anymore, and I decided to FreeCycle it back.

The day after I posted it, a woman was interested and came to pick up the stuff. When she got home, she dropped me an e-mail that basically said, "How funny, most of the clothes were clothes I gave to you." After dying from embarrassment, I laughed for a long time. I e-mailed her back and apologized for the boomerang clothes. Whoopsie!

The one good thing about those crazy, screechy baby days is that eventually they are followed by a sleepy baby day so that she can recharge or whatever, I guess.

Like today.

And it is AWESOME. I have eaten two meals so far today. Two meals, people! AND picked up a free exersaucer from FreeCycle. And washed diapers, and another load of laundry.

Sleepy baby days are very good days.

Someone on Freecycle has a couple of orange tabby double-pawed kittens. They are five weeks old. One of them is a boy.

I'm insane for thinking of taking him, right? With a disaster house and a new baby and three cats - two of whom do not get along - this is a bad idea, right?

ORANGE TABBY DOUBLE-PAWS!!!!!!!

Yesterday I picked up "a bag of baby clothes 0-6 months" that I scooped up on Freecycle. I was not expecting it to be a whole trash bag stuffed to the gills with stuff! Holy carp! Most of it is 0-3 months and is for cooler months than, say, July and August, but what we can't use we will gladly pay it forward to some folks who are due in, let's say, January. (Oh, there are a few of you.) It's all good stuff for the most part and it's free!

Speaking of Freecycle, I kind of have this obsession with male orange tabbies with double paws, ever since I met [livejournal.com profile] ladygreyy's Manny. I want one. We have three cats and do not need any more cats, but I always maintained that if I found an orange Hemingway cat, we would make room. Well guess what popped up on Freecycle yesterday?!??! I e-mailed the woman but I guess I was not chosen for the cat, which is okay because hello, too many cats.

But what was even better was when Eryn e-mailed me the listing and was all, "Hey, look - an orange cat! This is your cat!" It's nice to know that I am so free to share my cat obsessions.

I was catching up on IVP blogs and there are a couple of sad ones about TTC plans gone awry due to cheating, or relationship difficulties. It really put a lot of stuff in perspective for me. I'm sure I'll lose my perspective again when I'm feeling particularly needy and emotional, but for now I will just be thankful that Jen and I are a good team who are both totally devoted to growing our baby. And it makes me very glad that A. and I did not successfully have any children - even though I was /devastated/ when we broke up because I thought maybe I would never have kids, I realize now that it was worth it to wait several years and get the kids at the right time.

It's nice.

For the last several months, I have been a Freecycling fool, snapping up almost any baby-related items that I thought we might have some use for. I mean, we've amassed quite a collection.

The fun thing about Freecycle is that you end up with a lot of stuff that you DON'T want. You go to pick up some, say, safety supplies and you end up with a stuffed animal. Or you pick up a "bag of baby items" and there is invariably a pair of pants in there that is, umm, not your taste.

Now I get to re-Freecycle it! I just passed off a bag of miscellaneous baby items and a crib bumper that I ended up with that we've decided not to use (we want a breathable one instead if we use one), and I've got a few more things up that are looking for homes (including our on-again, off-again humidifier). It's fun to put the stuff out on the stoop and know that someone is going to use it. (I know I've used most of the stuff that *I* picked up on stoops!)

Freecycle appeals to me on so many levels: it's free, it's fun, and it involves getting rid of clutter! Yay!

It makes me so sad when people are giving away their pets on Freecycle.
