I love FreeCycle.

I haven't been as great at purging stuff lately but I hope to get back into it. But oh, I have made a couple of good scores!

A few weeks ago I managed to score one of those plastic swings that you hang from a tree. It's definitely not in "brand new" shape but it looks like the ropes and seat are perfectly fine and it could just use a little cleaning. Awesome, because I want Punk to have a swing this spring/summer.

Today I managed to nab one of those bike seats you put on the back of your bicycle and strap your kid into it. I'm pretty sure Punk is too small for it this year but I can hold onto it until next year or the fall or whenever she is large enough. Then I have an excuse to get on my bike again! I'll pick that up tomorrow.

A funny FreeCycle story:
A while back this woman posted that she had a bunch of summer clothes/shorts and stuff to give away and I thought they might fit Jen so I went and picked them up. Well, there WERE some shorts in there but there were also a lot of dresses and skorts and frilly shirts and other things that are definitely not Jen. So she picked out the stuff she wanted and then put the rest in a bag with some other clothes she wasn't wearing anymore, and I decided to FreeCycle it back.

The day after I posted it, a woman was interested and came to pick up the stuff. When she got home, she dropped me an e-mail that basically said, "How funny, most of the clothes were clothes I gave to you." After dying from embarrassment, I laughed for a long time. I e-mailed her back and apologized for the boomerang clothes. Whoopsie!

We need to try freecycle around here. I want a swing like you got! I'm LMAO about the clothes. You should have had Jen put a few of the skirts and dresses on for some fun pics.

The dresses and stuff were SO awful, too. Like, it's not just that they were dresses. =P

I hope you mean one of those bike seats that you pull behind the bike...not a seat behind you. Cause those are WICKED dangerous - if you fall, the baby falls....and can get MAJOR head/neck injury. Just FYI.

I did mean a seat and not a baby trailer. I mean, dragging a kid in a trailer behind you on a bike isn't exactly the safest thing, either.

Is it the safest thing? Nah. But the amount of bike riding I might do is negligible.

My mom used to have a seat in front and a seat behind her AND then had the dog run along beside the bike. I also have a picture of her with me in a bike seat and my brother in a sling... with the dog running along beside the bike.

(it's a wonder we're still here. ;-)

My dad didn't have a bicycle, but when we were too little to sit behind him on his motorcycle, we sat in front of him on the gas tank. :) I'm pretty sure we wore helmets, but we didn't when we rode in the back of the pickup truck!

I'll have to see. I'm scared! She totally knows I don't like her nasty clothes!

Funny - I was just talking about finding a swing like that for Stuart, and the daycare lady at the Y said that when she got one at a tag sale, she called Little Tykes and they restrung it for her for, I think, free! They put new rope in it, made sure it was all "up to code" and all, and sent it back... I thought that was cool if we ever do find one at a tag sale or whatever - maybe you can give them a call and see if they'll do that for you! :)

I should get back on freecycle now that he's getting older and more into new, bigger toys... and we've got a lot of stuff to get rid of to get ready for the new house...

That's interesting! I should look into that. I'd love for them to test the ropes or whatever. :)

Freecycle IS teh awesome. I picked up a bunch of baby clothes from someone, and at the bottom of the box was some nasty old curtains and mens clothes...um...and then we ended up becoming friends with those people about 6 months later! They love seeing our kid in "their" clothes. and now they just pass 'em on instead of freecycling!

We have a bike seat for Z, but you're supposed to wait until their fontanels have closed (and they're over 1 year old), and then you can safely put a helmet on 'em and bike 'em around. And Z's head still has those squishy spots :( so we'll have to wait until fall or maybe next spring/summer. we LOVE to bike, so we're anxious!

Punk's top fontanel is almost completely closed. I was actually pretty surprised that it was closed so quickly and was going to ask the pedi about it at her appointment tomorrow. Gotta love being a paranoid, overinformed mama! ;)

I wasn't planning on doing anything this year, probably next. But hey, it was there so I might as well snatch it up!

I used to bike a TON when I lived in Columbus, but then I moved to Boston and was too scared of the crazy drivers to bike locally. And by the time we moved here, I was pregnant. I want to bike again!!
