(Okay, the icon is irreverent. Whoops.)

So my phone rang this morning and it was the minister of the UCC Church. (He'd asked me to fill out a welcome card, which I did, and checked off that we'd like to speak to someone about the church.) Boy, that was quick!

So he was exceptionally chipper and wants to come to our house to talk to us. Yeah, I'm not used to that. He's like Reverend Camden! Oh my goodness, I'm living in "7th Heaven"! Now if only Mary and Matt would come over and we could all play some basketball or have a study session...

But yeah, so RevCam is going to come over next Monday. I called Jen to double check if we had plans and she asked why he wanted to come over, if he was going to check our house for pagan paraphernalia. Heh, this isn't a home inspection as far as I know (although we do need to have one eventually when Jen adopts her own baby), but it was funny at the time. I /do/ have a bunch of pagan paraphernalia after all...

As long as he doesn't bring those annoying twins (Sam and David? I stopped watching when they got annoying), we'll be fine.

re: the twins on 7th Heaven: i think they jumped the shark when the twins became part of the storyline.

You are so right. Aside from twins being SO cliche, seriously, did AnnieCam really need to have more kids?

It was much easier to digest when Lucy had a baby than when Annie had MORE. Shame, because it was a really good show, if a wee bit (okay a LOT) cheesy.

it was so super cheesy, but there was something about it that i loved!

Lucy was dating some policeman and they got married, then had a baby. Then something happened and he retired from the police force and was a SAHD, and Lucy was a minister in her dad's church. That part was pretty dumb.

man... If a pastor came over to my house, it'd be alll over for me. My nun fetish is, um, apparent. Also, I have an upside-down Jesus on the Cross pinata in my living room...

Heh, my dad had a hardcore nun fetish. I'm not saying you're my dad or anything, but umm, are you my dad?

I don't think we have anything shocking here. I'm so straight-laced it's scary.

WHERE DO YOU GET THOSE?! I want one immediately.

(Let it not be said that we in progressive circles do not have a sense of humor!)

I used to watch 7th Heaven. Right after my dad got married I used to watch it and cry because they were such a nice family. now C. doesn't let me watch it.

From: [identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com
Man, C needs to let you watch. Because, hello, they're like the new Brady Bunch with church mixed in!

omg- I LOVED 7th heaven as well. I kind of stopped watching once Mary was kicked out of the house. I watched some of the last season but it was so baaaaaaaad. I did love that Ruthie grew up to be a slut.

Re: Ruthie being a slut - ME TOO, so satisfying.

Why DID Mary get kicked out of the house? I missed that stuff. What a good show.

What's a UCC church exactly? Sorry - I'm ignorant. And wikipedia isn't helping much since it seems like each church is different.

Date: 2007-09-12 08:40 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com
Well, each church is self-governed so they can be different. Kind of like the Methodists; don't they do that?

UCC stands for United Church of Christ. They are (in my opinion) the most liberal and progressive of all of the Christian Churches. Here is kind of a quick and dirty skinny: http://www.ucc.org/about-us/what-we-believe.html

They're kind of like the Unitarian Universalists of Christians. They hold a lot of the same tenets as the UUs, but have the Trinity/Christian/Bible aspect.

Ah ok United Church of Christ. I was looking up Congregational Churches. My brain is fried, forgive me. All I can think about these days is statutes and common law (barf).

Date: 2007-09-13 02:54 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com
It's okay. Congregational Churches seem to be unique to New England. Some of them are still holdovers and haven't changed over to the UCC... but this one has.

Good luck with your law blah blah!

i liked simon. he looked like a hot lesbian. speaking of, i have a mini-quinnie outfit for the littlest one! i'll ship it away to you once i'm done looking at it and going "aww!"
and don't get a kitten, they're possessed by evil spirits and they all like the yankees.

If kittens like the Yankees, then forget it - no more kittens! (Although all of my cats are definitely Sox fans.)

I can't wait to see the mini-quinn outfit and dress the kid in it! Then you will be twinsies!

I don't understand why no one ever realized that Ruthie looked nothing like anyone else in the family. ADOPTION DOESN'T NEED TO BE KEPT SILENT. THIS IS NOT 1950.

Speaking of which: Jen has to adopt her own kid? What kind of craziness is that?

Date: 2007-09-12 08:35 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com
Well, Mary and Matt didn't really look like the Cams either, but Ruthie definitely looked the most out there with her darker skin and curly hair. They need to fess up about the fact that Ruthie is Matt's lovechild or something.

Well, you know, she's on the birth certificate and all, but since it's a modified birth certificate, other states don't need to accept it. Second-parent adoption is more likely to hold up in other states. It sucks.

I cannot even tell you how thrilled I am that someone else watched Seventh Heaven-- and I too think it jumped the shark when Mary left after she burned down the gym or whatever it was.

7th Heaven was such a fantastic show! I get so excited when I see some on syndication!

Mary burned down the gym? Is that what happened? I missed all of that excitement - once I tuned back in, she was just gone.

this summer, "my" church joined up with theirs for a little while. it was nice there.

i love the one i work at though, so i'm partial to that one. it's the one my friends Lora and Liza go to - that's how i got involved. more than half the kids in the chilcare room have two mommies.

I dig the rev at Edwards. He loves the gays a little too much.
