Ugh, the sleep saga continues.
Last night, Punk took a nap around 4:30pm. A nap! An actual nap in the crib! Of her own free will! She woke up around 5:10pm and was groggy but hey, a nap! She was sleepy sleepy so we started getting ready for bed, and then I guess she caught her second wind because she did NOT want to go to sleep. I had to rock her for a ridiculously long time (nearly an hour, in two installments) to get her to go to sleep. And then she needed to be settled a couple of times.
She woke up at 10pm, crying crying crying. No amount of settling would do anything except holding her, and she would pop up when you put her down. So I took her to bed with me, and she fell asleep instantly and stayed asleep until 2am. I didn't really sleep, because she's super restless and I was in this weird position and yeah, cosleeping is not glamorous at my house.
At 2am I was ready to thank the Lord because she was going to get a bottle and then go to bed in the crib! I passed the baby to Jen and got all cozy imagining the luxurious sleep I would get for about 4 hours. About 40 minutes later, Jen came back and said she couldn't get the baby to sleep in the crib, that she would wake up as soon as she put her down. I told her I didn't want to take the baby back into bed with me because I couldn't sleep. She told me then that I would have to go try to get the baby in the crib instead. I knew getting up would be bad on sleep, so I took the baby back into bed with me and she slept blissfully until Jen's alarm went off around 6:30.
I, however, did not sleep.
And did I mention that I am getting a cold and have a scratchy throat thing going on?
And I didn't sleep?
And I have to go get a pap/annual this afternoon?
The hits just keep on coming.

I won't even bother typing out the disaster that was the noontime nap fiasco, the soup that boiled over everywhere, the baby who kept waking up, and the opportunistic cats.

Date: 2007-12-04 06:29 pm (UTC)I didn't tell you that you had to put her in the crib - I asked you if you wanted to try or to take her back into bed with you because she would not sleep - since I had gotten her to sleep four times and four times she woke up as soon as her little bum hit the cool sheets.
When you were reluctant, for good reason, I tried to put her in the crib two more times before taking her into bed with me - but she started to scream because I am not Mama and that is when you told me to give her to you.
Tonight you go to bed early. Even if it has to be with the baby. If that is the case - when she is super asleep and not when she is hungry or wet or crying - I will move her to the crib. If it's without the baby - I will do the 11 pm feeding.

Date: 2007-12-04 06:46 pm (UTC)i also give roni a bottle at naptime (even if she just had a bottle). Again, the sucking helps calm her down.
she also likes to have her stuffed bear, Patches, at sleeping time.
i'm also the bad mom in that i let them sleep on a pillow under blankets. (my theory: whatever friggin works!)
will she nap in the swing?
just brainstorming different ideas here with ya.

Date: 2007-12-05 02:04 am (UTC)2. I used to give her a little bottle at naptime and it did help her settle down, but she always woke up and puked because her tummy was full. A pacifier will do the same thing as the bottle (without the puking) as long as I am holding her and holding the paci in.
3. I tried to get her attached to a little monkey that
4. She sleeps on a pillow under a blanket when she is in the big bed. Maybe I should try it in the crib, too.
5. She will NOT nap in the swing. She will shove her fingers so far down her throat in the swing that she gags and pukes. I have no idea why she does this. I think because she is happy?
I think I am going to go back to swaddling for naps. I already covered the windows with black towels today. We will see what happens.

I barely survived my first child's first year and she was an easy sleeper. You are a friggin trooper.
(Hell, I've barely survived all three of their first years. The first 6 months are THE Suck)
