I love me some Olex and Jen.
Jul. 17th, 2005 11:39 pmAfter an afternoon at Wiley and Jenn's eating some yummy food and playing with some Widget, we dashed up to Davis to play candlepin bowling at an old bowling alley with Olex and Jen. They brought friends along: Jaime, Michael, and their darling son, Angel. After some greasy pizza (wow, I ate a lot of food today) we took in a couple of games of candlepin. I am a fan of the candlepin, because while I suck just as bad as I do in 10-pin, I don't end up with a sore wrist after. Sweet.
Michael is a riot and a half because you could just tell he wasn't entirely sure if my Jennifer was a boy or a girl, but he was trying very hard not to screw up. So he avoided all pronouns. He would say things like, "Oh, wow, look at... *pause*" So cute. He was also incredibly enthusiastic about bowling and even ran so fast once that he slipped and fell on the floor. He reminded me quite a bit of Pedro and I am definitely missing some Pedro.
Jaime is a sweet girl who I think is still a little unsure of her ability to be a rockin' mama to a 4-month-old. Angel got quite cranky as the night went on and you could tell that she just wanted to apologize her way into a hole in the wall, and was totally worried that he was crying because she somehow screwed something up. (So not the case.) I tried so hard to reassure her that she had great mama instincts and was not going to do anything that was going to break her baby. I wish I knew her better, because I felt like I didn't know her well enough to really give her child development info. I don't want to be one of those people who appears to tell people how to parent their kids - she really was doing a fabulous job at parenting, I just wanted to make her less nervous. Maybe if I ever see her again I'll ask her if she wants some of the info that I give to the families I work with.
I was the candlepin champion twice - once with a score of 82 and the other time with like a 68. That's just sad.
