Went to the casino today for Grandma's birthday, with a slight shift in plans. To start, Grandpa called at 8:30am to tell me that they were ready - when we were supposed to meet at 9! (Good thing we got up early.) And it was a surprise that Grandpa was coming, because I thought it was just going to be Grandma and Alice. And my grandfather wanted to drive my grandmother's new car... that they weren't going to buy until October. But whatever, it was fun!

Grandma and Alice hit the slots immediately while Grandpa took Jen and I on a walking tour of the casino. Since he doesn't gamble, he spends a lot of time walking around, and I think he really enjoyed the company. We stopped to have a cup of coffee and some random 80-year-old guy named "Wild Bill" (that's what he told us) asked if he could sit with is, and he would not. stop. talking. He talked about /anything/ - from his tennis playing to his wife to how pretty I was to being a WWII veteran to how he was a member of some Episcopalian church that was all up in arms about that gay priest/bishop/whatever. But it was all worth it because I got to hear my grandfather complain about President Bush. I love that.

We parted ways to go play some slot machines and my grandfather slipped us a little money. When we met for lunch later on, we were doing pretty well (hadn't really /won/, but hadn't lost much, either), but then Grandma and Alice really wanted to play more slots. (They are so addicted, and they always win.) So after lunch, we lost most of what we'd accumulated. Oh well. Alice gave me this angel pin that she makes out of different kinds of pasta (I wish I was kidding) because she insisted I needed it for good luck, but I guess I'm beyond the help of angels. Those 5¢ games are pretty fun - I especially liked the "Frankie & Annette" one. Wah-watusi!

We got back and chatted with the grandparents for quite some time, did a little bit of stuff in the house, and left with a bagful of garden vegetables. Also, we drove 100 miles in the car and no scrambled eggs! Yay!
